Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If he hadn't have been annoying the shark,I'm fairly sure the shark wouldn't have bitten him. Hope the sharks ok.!

If you dragged me into a boat with a hook in my mouth, I would bite. It wasn't an attack.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,121 ✭✭✭amcalester

More likely a fishing accident than a shark attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,453 ✭✭✭Shenshen

What the... How in.... Just... What?
How do you get bitten by a shark while you're on a boat??? Did it leap out of the water and landed on board???

Yeah I'd have to agree, if you pull a shark out of the water and consequently get bitten by it while it's on your boat it's not really a shark attack is it?

Self defense on the part of the shark, if that's how it happened. I suspect it didn't safe the poor critter, though.

I haven't clicked on the story, but it is the journal, so almost guaranteed to be hysterical sensationalist bull and the reality is its some minor fishing incident

God help us if the indo or daily muck take it up.

What information in the news story linked to in the OP is incorrect? All it says is man bitten by shark while angling and then goes on to detail the rescue operation.

I just read up on Blue Sharks, out of curiosity now.
Wiki says that between 1580 and 2013, there have been a total of 13 documented biting incidents from Blue Sharks. Makes you wonder what kind of a potential Darwin Award winner this "angler" is...

Exactly this. Video shared on the charter company's Facebook showing the guy being picked up by the RNLI with a bandage on his arm. The rest of the guys stayed out fishing by the looks of it.

On a similar note, although much more serious,
Spanish trawler detained in Cork for allegedly finning sharks in irish waters.
Boat should be confiscated and sunk.

I just watched a quick video on Youtube about blue sharks by a shark expert and he said categorically, They. Don't. Bite. People.

Well his reputation is now in tatters.

Well....they probably don't while in the water and being left alone.

Might be a bit different when they're trashing around on the deck of a fishing boat all stressed out like.

They were attempting to put a tag on it at the time apparently.

In the circumstance of this case it has been classified as an angling accident. It was no shark attack. The guys seemed to have made a mess of handling and tagging this fish.
