Any idea how to book the return bus trip with Marathon?

    https://www.marathonsportsbooking.ie/Tours/Electric-Picnic

I can select the outbound trip from Dublin, but when I try to select the return ticket, i get the error:
"Sorry, there are no return departures available for your ticket type."

I don't see the return trip anywhere on the site.

Hazelwood is moving to the main arena, that sucks, was a grand place for a sit down with a few cans to watch something mad.

Conradh na Gaeilge invite festival goers to wander in the Hazel Wood After Dark, where Irish language, culture and music will reign, to celebrate Croí na Féile sa Chollchoill. Poets and musicians of bilingual collective REIC will guide wanderers through the woods, bewitching them with beautiful melodies and explosive acts - The Housekeepers, Just Like Us, The Shandrum Céilí Band, Dó Fá Dó to name but a few - closing the festival with Disco Anocht taking to the decks under the cover of darkness in the moonlit woods.

Listen to the storytellers and singers who will gather fireside along the outskirts of the main arena of the festival. Share stories of your own too, in the comfort of Raidió Rí-Rá’s outside broadcasting corner under the shelter of the trees, where they will be live on air from the festival site.

"We saw the positive effect that the Irish language presence on site at Electric Picnic had last year, and we are really looking forward to building on that this year with both the Hazelwood After Dark stage and the Gaeltacht campsite - especially now that the Hazelwood will be located within the main arena. - Síomha Ní Ruairc, Conradh na Gaeilge.

Reading this, it kinda sounds like the Hazelwood will stay in the same place, with the main arena boundary extended outwards?

If this is the case, it doesn't bode well for the salty dog...

Find it hard to beleive that they will get rid of the salty dog given its popularity but maybe i am just too sentimental.

Agreed , Its pretty much one of the staples of EP imo and it would be a shame for it to be moved or removed

Was the arena extended to include Salty Dog last year or am I imagining that?

What i was getting at was that if the main arena boundary is being extended to include the Hazelwood, it may also mean that the salty dog would be inside the main arena too, which would mean an end to lovely cans at one of the best places of EP.

A few months ago, a poster here suggested that salty dog would be within the main arena this year.

Maybe they won't get rid of Salty Dog but could they possibly be moving that entire area into the main arena along with the new FREETOWN area where the Oscar Wilde campsite was? Essentially decreasing the free flow alcohol areas.

Considering the substantial profits they make each year, decreasing the free flow areas is a little bit mean spirited of them. I mean, it would be different if they were struggling to survive and so had to close off the salty dog etc

May as well get rid of it if that’s the case.

Salty Dog is directly on the path between the new Freetown area and the main arena. Unless the whole new stage is free flow I can see them putting the security check the farside of where the old Oscar Wilde campsite was and that whole area being inside the security checks. With an 8,000 capacity stage I imagine that's the direction they'll take. The Salty Dog then might be part of what they are referring to as being "Spike Island" on the outskirts of FREETOWN. Another possibility of course is that the entire new FREETOWN will be free flow, although I think that's unlikely given the direction of commercial travel over the years!

If Hazelwood is staying in the same place but moving into the main arena that will mean a new route needed for Pink moon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭Poorside

Just looking at last years map, the easiest option would be to move Hazelwood up to where other voices was, probably easy enough to incorporate that part.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,687 ✭✭✭Mucker46

I suspect salty dog will go inside arena. Only advantage will be not needing to go through security after every visit to salty dog. However i think some of the draw and atmosphere of salty dog was the fact that it was outside the arena, and not just because you could bring your own drink, but because it felt like a festival within a festival and a lot less commercial, even though obviously it was commercial).

Chances we get Tame Impala? Amazing show at the 3Arena. And any chance of another 3Plus sale for tickets? Missed out before Xmas :(

Salty Dog has been the starting point of each day for our gang plus many others who BYO cans. Tends to be an older crowd during the afternoons. Lovely atmosphere and great craic. Many like us are probably coming and going from site each day and not camping so the salty dog is the natural spot to have your cans rather than sitting in a field.

It will be badly missed if they bring this area inside the main arena

New Order stunning at Trinity last night. Five JD tracks and a dozen hits. Excellent sound and Barney's voice better than it's been for some time. Too early for them to return to EP but I'd love them back next year. 40th anniversary of Closer could signal a big tour.

Was blown away by the show, best I've ever seen them. Barney loves it! Great crowd at Trinity, first gig I've ever been to in there. Even found some DnB afterwards.

    A High Quality Sunday!

Fully agree. I've not seen them play that well before and Barney's voice wasn't terrible for a change. They're really enjoying themselves, sound was excellent and set-up at Trinity great. Loved the setlist and Decades for the encore was stunning. Hopefully they keep going but they're in their sixties now so I can see them calling it a day in the next 2/3 years.

One last tour with Hooky you'd think.

Culminating in a huge punch-up between Barney and Hooky, Stephen laughing his cake off at them and Gillian twatting them both round the head with a keyboard.

Much as I'd love that ruckus it's likely they'll not play together again. Given how good NO sound without him and how Hook's own shows are going down so well it seems they're better off apart.

I'd assumed that tempers had cooled somewhat - Hooky's band has been getting advertising on New Order's social media channels in the past few months. I've never actually seen Peter Hook & The Light live as of yet, might go to see them in Belfast this September. Does Hooky actually sing? Could split vocals with Barney for a few JD numbers.

He does, and he does a fine job.
Saw them last year and it was brilliant, smallish venue but he blew it away, well worth a look.

I'd heard that re social media stuff. Sounds like progress.
Not seen Hook live but he does sing. Apparently pretty poorly.

He should really rope in the other chap that he had in Monaco, he was a dead ringer for Barneys voice.

edit : scratch that, he has him in the band.

Is there an option to hire a trolley/wheel borrow up there?

Not that I can recall seeing. Best bet is probably to check halfords and the like.

I got this one last year and I think it was about €60'ish. Well worth it.

Folded down to a pretty small size, both it and the chair are still in the boot of the car.
