I’d love the frames at about 4pm main stage sitting on the grass sun shining

I think it's time for some wacky predictions for this bit of an announcement if/when we do indeed get it. The following are a collection of acts that night be able to fit themselves in on that weekend but are mostly just ones I'd like to see.

The Offspring (I'd say people are sick of me going on about this one, they are basically my Aphex twin at this point)

Republic of Loose (as noted they have a best of due out on August 30th, a gig at EP to coincide with this would be great, and aci quite likely I think)

The Frames (hey a man can dream.....)

Kneecap (was suprised they weren't at ATN tbh, have had a great summer of festivals doing killer sets at b&s and longtitude)

The Chats (think they are still around Europe during this time)

We banjo 3 (fantastic folk band that have spent a good amount of time in the US recently on the folk circuit, but an Irish tour is coming in the Autumn and a gap in their schedule around EP time. They would be absolutely immense at Salty Dog I reckon)

If I get two out of this list I'll be right happy with myself.

Kings of Leon are floating about.

Dermot Kennedy might have to pull out this year judging by his social media posts

Has the Heineken Sound atlas thing been announced yet?

I think so... something Heinekeny has been announced with Dusky and Tensnake (better than usual)

I'd say they are too big for a second or third announcement. They may not be as big as they used to be but still big.

If it was youth and young manhood/aha shake heart break Kings of Leon I'd be all for it!

Would be right there with ya on them, they bring back many hazy memories of fibbers from when I was in college and it still had the dank

Car seat headrest are currently touring in the UK. Last played EP in 2017. Unbelievable live band. Would be a solid late addition to the lineup.

They were my last act before I hit the road that year. Great gig. Drunk drivers/ Killer Whales one of the tracks of that Picnic.

The singer songwriters / indie bands and techno DJs are well covered.

Wish they’d put on a few more decent rappers/ hip hop acts each year , not the longtitude mumble rap ****e , stuff like Nas. Cypress hill are touring Europe either now or soon.

And little bit of heavier rock/metal wouldn’t go astray for some proper moshing, even just one or two bands along them lines. Something like Parkway Drive for a much broader mix of genres

EP has really covered that area for the past few years. 2018 alone had NERD, Versatile & Kendrick Lamar. Most major hip-hop acts (bar Eminem, Snoop, Dre, Kanye & Jay Z) have played EP including every significant 80s and 90s act.

I remember for example 2016 having Nas, Rejjie Snow, Skepta, Joey Badass, Kano, The Rusangano Family and a few others.

This year though, as you say, is very light. Notwithstanding J Hus, Maverick Sabre and The Streets (who may creep into that definition) there's little there.

    A surprise on the way?

Anderson .Paak has a lovely little spot missing in his schedule for EP. Him and Tame Impala are my 2 big wants.

Checking random bands sites, Gogol Bordello also have a large ep sized hole in their schedule and are in the right place on the planet at that point.

Eric B & Rakim might disagree ;) ... They re-united a couple of years back. What a coup they would be. Playing in Boston later in September. This would be my "Aphex Twin" moment.

In fairness to EP though, they have covered the old school hop hop acts pretty well. Nothing this year, so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 349 ✭✭Reggie noble

Have they though ? They definitely have not covered every significant 80’s and 90’s act.

We’ve had Wu Tang, public enemy , Nas , Jurassic 5 . Then newer guys like joey badass and Kendrick. Kano was excellent 3 or 4 years ago .

Great shout for Eric B and Rakim. Or a KRS-1 , EPMD, DJ Premier , Ice-T , Ice Cube (prob cost too much)
Or newer acts like Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q , childish gambino.

Maybe a few of them will be in Fridays announcement :)

Side note : yeh I’d put the streets in there, high on my must see list this year

Did I miss the years that childish gambino, chance the rapper, drake, Tyler the creator, Frank Ocean, kid cudi and ASAP rocky all played?

We have also had ATCQ, Beasties, De la Soul, Grandmaster Flash (year 1), and unless I am gone mad I am sure we had Run DMC in year 3 or 4 although I can't find any evidence of that.

Surely we will get an old school act this year.
