There's an awful lot of posters on here who conflate "I don't like the band" to "the band isn't big enough to headline" which is weird.

I'm no fan of Hozier or Florence + the Machine but they are inarguably headline material for this festival.

The Strokes are a great act (and one who may qualify as "legacy" for plenty of the younger attendees at the festival), and the 1975, Billie Eilish, Christine and the Queens and others are popular acts who play prominent slots at festivals all over the world.

It's not all to my taste, but EP has done well to bag a lot of big names who will appeal to many of those attending the festival.

It's continuing along the Glasto line of all things to all people. Most people can find a dozen or more acts to enjoy there. A deficit of dance and hip-hop but the Freetown announcement may solve that.

They also have a folk/trad announcement for spike island aswell. It would be great if the whole area is free flow seen as the 'full' main arena lineup is now confirmed.

These Charming Men (absolute class last night) playing Salty Dog Friday @17.40

The singer said (and I probably misheard) Johnny Marr was playing Main Stage Sunday @1pm

Ad nauseum I've been asking for Wilco and their absence diminishes the fest a little for me. EP surely could have got them a few days before their European fest starts. Nonetheless there's loads for me to see and I expect to have another great year, though a truncated one as my pregnant partner ain't letting me off the leash for the entire weekend. Getting there at all is a big bonus. looking forward to seeing many of these (essential with an asterik) and also some of the boardsies crew:

    The Strokes *
    Michael Kiwanuka *
    Courtney Barnett *
    Johnny Marr *
    Billie Eilish *
    Echo & The Bunnymen *
    Richard Ashcroft *
    The Streets *
    Let's Eat Grandma
    Sons of Kemet
Bonnie Tyler (back me up Mucker!) *
    The Frank and Walters
    Otherkin
    Viagra Boys
    Touts *
    Christine & the Queens *
    An Emotional Fish *
    The Clockworks
    Montauk Hotel
    Powpig
    Odd Morris
    Bodega
    Pillow Queens
    Meltybrains
    Working Men's club
    Sports Team
    Inhaler
    Talos
    David Keenan
    Parquet Courts *
    Duff McKagan
    Brittany Howard
    Four Tet
    James Blake
    Bootleg Beach Boys
    These Charming Men *
    Roadhouse Doors
    Harvest

We missed each other a number of times last year Seathrun but looking at your list we are bound to run into each other this year. See you at Bonnie for a hearty singalong.
    When are you leaving EP?

Is that not the gospel choir spot? No way he's that far down the pecking order

Yeah thats what I heard too!

I think he also hinted he might be on stage with him too at some stage, or was that the drink talking to me.

I'd expect to see Richard Ashcroft 6-7 on the main stage?

In no particular order any act I have any interest in seeing.
    The Strokes
    1975
    Billie Eilish
    Christine and The Queen's
    Four Tet
    Gerry Cinnamon
    Jarvis Cocker
    Johnny Marr
    R. Ashcroft
    Richie Hawtin
    Roisin Murphy
    The Streets
    Courtney Barnett
    Echo and The Bunnymen
    Kkc
    Maceo Plex
    Metronomy
    Sam Fender.

That's without anything from B&S and Salty Dog which I have a fair bit marked to see. Plenty to see and do can't wait.

Interesting comment from Benn saying they could have sold out EP twice over!!

That's poor timing on the back of a lacklustre announcement. If you're looking for signs that they're getting cocky, there's some ammunition right there.

I think it's a fair statement to say they could have sold it twice over. Demand is huge, early bird tickets went so fast and people are still looking for tickets. Picnic is an event that is firmly part of the Irish summer calendar. Probably a bit cocky too but the comparisons to Glastonbury keep coming up too, their intentions are clear at this point.

When the Picnic announced the Prodigy, Death Grips etc did they not say that was the final announcement, then announced Chic about 2 or 3 days before the event. Do you think they might have someone left to surprise the fcuk out of us with as well as the announcement for Freetown and Spike Island hopefully soon.

Yep that announcement on their site last year was called the final lineup. https://www.electricpicnic.ie/news/prodigy-start-dance-electric-picnic-final-line-revealed

Let me guess the Monday headline following the picnic...Rain fails to dampen revellers' spirits....

    The Claque

Very disappointing lineup I feel. Not much imagination gone into it, a lot reshuffled from previous years (which obviously cant be avoided, but it's too soon for Florence and the Machine to be back headlining again IMO) and from rival festivals around Ireland in the last year or two. The bottom three from the above acts I saw at ATN. I'd call the Streets and the Strokes coups because theyve been absent from the live scene for a bit and EP got them first. The others, they arent really a big deal to have booked because they're around so frequently.

I think all headliners (I'll include Billie Eiish in that) are worthy headliners 100% and good pulls for the festival, arguably they are some of the bigger headliners that they have had over the years. Most of them would have no problem selling out big solo concerts in the country. In years gone by you could question how well some of them would have sold out shows in the 3Arena (NERD, A Tribe Called Quest), as a collective though it is very pop-y, 4 of the 5 could be classified as pop music probably. Undercard is a different story I guess and will depend on each individuals view, personally I don't think the undercard is as good this year as usual but the same could be said for almost all festivals across Europe this year.

Exactly, can't understand why people are annoyed when the main stage headliners tend to be more on the poppy side of things, the clue is in the title. Having said that, the announcement on Friday was pretty weak all the same

I would classify myself as someone who is disappointed by the headliners, I suppose it simply comes down to whether you like them or not. Usually they have a good variety of headliners though and you will like at least one, this year I would say there are a good few people who will go to 3 or 4 of them but also a good group of people who have no interest in any.

Yeah I agree. We were discussing it today it in our group, and I’d say we will rarely be at the main stage, most of the main arena actually. I’ve no actual must sees. But then last year I missed two of my must sees just because we were having the craic in the Berlin bunker and I think Body and soul. So I guess I don’t know why I’m disappointed in the line up like I am. I guess I just wanted one electronic big hitter really.

I know for a fact it’s going to be a brilliant weekend and we are all going to be saying the same when we have recovered after it!

Apparently you may be able to simply return it due to demand. Email them I’d say.

I reckon there has got to be one or two more surprises, they done this last year saying that was the final announcement then announced more, keep the hope up we might get an electronic 'after headliner' yet, plus these last few areas Mindfield, Freetown and Spike. :) Although the lineups not bad and there is still areas of the Picnic I haven't really investigated yet.

That's fair,if you don't like them that is what it is,but the people that are just giving out about they all being pop acts is a bit much

Not sure yet Mucker. I may arrive on Sat and leave on Mon morning or arrive Fri then leave on Sun morning. Latter makes sense in terms of getting the tent up and getting into the vibe early. If The Strokes are Sat that should be the strongest day for me.

Give it up, he's not playing this year, some year we'll get him, and when he lashes out wagon wheel it'll be epic.
