The good the bad and the queen the one I am gutted about rest ok but not stellar and think many of the Irish bands will do both. Not worried about not going now.

I agree, though there's plenty of stuff there I'd love at EP. You've also got to assume that nearly all the decent Irish acts will also be at Stradbally.

exactly, but if anything this makes me more excited for what EP has to offer.

They will have the big ticket items, great undercard, great irish acts and a host of acts for me to discover along with all the other things it has to offer.

For 165 euro, EP is a steal for me.

Just on ATN, I would buy a ticket for George Fitzgearld live show alone.

Went to 3 festivals and about 15+ gigs last year, George Fitz live show in Button Factory was the standout.

Fingers crossed for EP. The Live Show >>> His DJ sets.

I'm happy with the ATN lineup but it still didn't rule out any of the acts I'm hoping to see at EP. Picnic lineup has the potential to be much better but also has the potential to let you down more.

same here... very much a "EPs little brother" feel to the ATN line up.

Don't see how that's a bad thing. A lot of us don't like how EP has turned into a commercial giant

Guess that's inevitable when ATN has about a 1/3 of capacity of EP. All that extra cash probably helps EP get bigger acts.

And yet, the commercialisation of EP is far more apparent than ATN, which also has a free-flow policy.

My little brother is much cooler than me.

im not at all saying its a bad thing at all......

im just commenting on the overlap of both the eclectic theme of EP and the bands who have played EP lately.

Always good to have options. Guess smaller crowds and bank holiday Monday for ATN a big draw but they're spaced out enough that people could go to both if so inclined. Think as ATN grows they may be in competition with each other but than can only help both up their game.

There is no way on earth i could do ATN and EP together in the one year, on an emotional, physical and mental level. They are wayyyyy to close together for me

but alas i am no spring chicken

Done it last year and am doing it again this year, have to say I was absolutely broken after ep last year so don't know why I'm doing it again. Probably FOMO but hopefully I will be a bit more sensible at both festivals this year i.e don't mix my drink and have plenty of water and eat regularly, shouldn't be as bad

I am pretty certain my body wouldn't let me do both but in no doubt wife wouldnt let me do both. EP is my weekend away from responsibilities not going to get two

Well exactly, me old Mucker. EP is my weekend for wombling around on my own listening to bands, devoid of reponsibility. I went to ATN with my missus and some friends, warmer, more chilled out, smaller, more scope for G and Ts, or whathaveyou. You still get your bands but it also counts as stuff we do together and is automatically pencilled in on the calender again. Bingo.

My wife loved it, had enough of tramping around Stradbally. It helped that Chaka Khan and the NPG were playing but we're back again this year.

    It's doable, lads!

Missus has no interest so can't try that one. Will just have to keep bumping into you stillill for chats about music

TGTB&TQ a bad loss but Jon Hopkins, Kiasmos, Father John Misty, National & Neneh Cherry I'll also miss at EP. The good side of that is that the above have all played at EP and we'll have a hell of a lot more options on acts in late August.

Was gutted about the national when they announced. Haven't listened to Jon Hopkins what type of music does he play. Saw father John misty before so not too gutted. Probably naively getting excited for EP announcement now I know ATN not full of acts I would like to see.

Hopkins is electronic. Excellent stage show and sound when he played EP but then he arguably had stronger material out then. May not be your taste but he'd be pretty popular here and one of my fave acts of 2015.

Looks like we'll get some awful acts as per last year, but a hell of a lot of goodies. I can deal with the mix cos there'll be mainly good stuff at the Salty Dog, B&S, Jerry Fish, Trailer Park & Other Voices stages. Tents always have options on for me and the main stage has at least 6/7 great acts I want to see over a weekend. Last year may have had loads of poor stuff but it also had Kendrick Lamar, The Prodigy, Massive Attack, Gomez, Ash, Mavis Staples, NERD, Chic & Garbage. Something like that will do me again. EP has its faults but no other Irish festival comes anywhere near for music options.

A sort of James Holden meets Four Tet kinda buzz, soundtrack ambient techno with cool glitches and beeps, the visuals he used at Body&Soul were pretty mind blowing and he uses live hoop dancers who work with the choreography of the rhythms, the hoops are like light shows in themselves. Its sounds like his Vicar Street show had technical failures where he couldn't use the visuals and that probably zapped the bit of positive energy he had for the gig, so I wouldn't knock him for that, everyone has their bad days.

The Bualadh Bus was the one I was seeking all weekend.

Surely the Picnic is long due a visit by the Specials, they seem to be active of late. Touring all summer with their last date listed as 23rd August at Victorious Festival. Its their 40th anniversary and more dates might be added on, possible contender for the EP lineup.

Middle-aged men online describing what they're wearing. A new low for the thread.
