All theses acts touring and we get hozier and the 1975? Get to ****. I decided last year I was done desire really enjoying it but thought I'd give it a lash if the line up interested me. I'll give it a miss thanks.

They've been saving their whinging juices for 6 months now, they need to squirt it out or else their ball bags could explode all over the shop

That's what is so surprising to me.

Everyone knows that this is the first line up announcement, but there seems to be a collective amnesia every year about it.

Previous later announcements have included Blur & prodigy so I am happy to wait and let the excitement build

I'll be fairly sad if Salty Dog is moved into main arena - I absolutely love it there (being able to drink cans in a pub environment rather than in a cramped campsite being the main reason). It's such a perfect place to meet up with pals for a catch up if not going to see the same stuff or to listen to a band before the adventure begins proper inside.

The Cure, Foals, New Order, Doves all playing Irish shows already so were never in the mix.

Bodega and Parquet Courts are announced, Johnny Marr more than likely now after being on another poster.

Ash played last year so unlikely to play again. Eels playing other gigs in Europe that weekend.

That leaves The Specials, Bloc Party, Basement Jaxx (dj set), The Hives, Badly Drawn Boy, The Futureheads, Sharon Van Etten and Cate le Bon from the others in your list.

No Other Voices stage this year, it will be badly missed

several of those are already playing their own gigs here this summer so no chance they were being announced: The Cure, Foals, New Order, Doves (supporting NG).
and then a few of them were announced for EP today: Parquet Courts, Courtney Barnett, Bodega.

Well, you some of those in the list were announced! Parquet Courts, Courtney Barnett and Bodega are all great acts.

I looked at the first announcement from 2018, and there was probably only 2 acts that took my fancy. There is probably 10 on this years lineup, and the Strokes are only headliners id go see.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,404 ✭✭✭Fatfrog

Have to say nothing there for me in the headliners, like the Strokes?? Was really hoping for Tame Impala.

But solid undercard!!, >10 acts there I want to see already! Pretty happy.

This festival has changed direction long ago, they really are going for the Glasto model, but its so delicate, one bad mix and that could be it! If they can keep along this road I'll be happy enough.

seems like quite a few people like the 1975...

    .....you should all know better!!!

    edit: also shame on you

Sets the standard though for whatever else will be announced and that's a pretty **** start to be honest.

The Strokes? Nope, not in a million years
Florence? Let an owl loose in a wind chime shop, same result
1975? Definitely not a headliner act, mid-card at best
Hozier? Thought a headline act is generally supposed to lift the roof off a gig, not put everyone to ****in sleep.

Wut?? Really? That's a huge loss to me. Most of my happiest hours over the last couple of years spent wombling between OV, Salty Dog and Trailer Park.

See it's not on the line up poster but does that definitely mean it won't be there? Know line-up for it isn't usually announced until much closer.

Interesting to see how this new area impacts the Salty dog. Logistically its needs service access for crew security etc, I presume the lane way to pink moon will be closed to general punters. The lost Wilde camping space I assume will be made up near the main entrance.

If its "a structure" hopefully sound bleed won't kill it!
How do 8000 empty out/enter in all at once? Passed the Salty dog?

I have to be honest I've discovered some great acts at Salty dog, but 9/10 times I only stopped to finish my can and got drawn in. Without freeflow booze in this area there's a real risk it will be empty!

Yeah I was genuinely shocked last year they got the best current rapper. Really thought it was the start of something new. Back to pure ****e now. Not even Tame Impala :(

Great to see Echo and the bunnymen on the list ,always put on a good show, for those who are unaware of their music, download their early albums cause after Ocean Rain ,the rest is crap.Heaven Up Here is an amazing album!!!!!, well worth checking out...

It'll always be Crocodiles & Heaven Up Here for me. Ocean Rain the critic's and fan fave but I prefer the even earlier and slightly rougher stuff. For their first 5/6 years they could do no wrong.

Salty Dog is my favourite place in EP , Seen some great gigs there The Minutes,Booka Brass,Roadhouse Doors(well the end of them last year),King Kong Company and the Hot Sprockets etc.

Its perfect as a meeting point too

For the OV stage, remember last year that people were clenching sphincters over the lack of B&S on the initial poster. Calm yer tits and wait.

I'll be honest, my eyes always go straight down to the undercard. Don't care about the "headliners". Prodigy & LCD Soundsystem being the exceptions over the last few years.

I wouldn't be surprised if this happens and Tame Impala are added. Them, Jonny Marr, Aphex Twin and Adnerson Paak would be a ood second announcement.

    Good? Merely good?

The lack of a spot to bring some cans is very disappointing for sure.

Really thought Flaming Lips or Wilco were gonna be on here.

Dates indicate there's a fair chance we'll get one or both in the next announcement. Alongside Tame Impala they were the three acts I most wanted on the poster.

Is that confirmed or just an oversight on the poster? Has happened before. They've got the set up there so hard to see them dropping an integral part of their year. Love that stage so hope they're returning.
