I think anybody would nearly cut somebody out for child or on unless something else happened behind closed doors that may away them one way or the other.

Money ? That seems to sway some people judging by this thread.

15 years later, after getting an education in the states, "yeah that was something I did in my youth, its more acceptable these days, I did rehab and some overseas voluntary in Africa". You know what its all forgotten about and he is back on RTE with a new branch of the dynasty .

It depends-I've known others who abandoned family over assault or rape allegations.
    That's it-no second chances.

Will he though? Again, 18 is old enough to supposedly have 'sense' regarding this stuff. If he's that stupid at 18, the chances are that he's going to retain that dumb as a brick mentality throughout his life. It's unfortunate, but that dumb streak tends to stick around, from my experience.

And, again, look at that Peru mule-the one who tried to spin her 'redemption' on RTE and it backfired spectacularly. The Allen's already had a spotlight on them with Tim and his 'spending'.
She thought she would be a celebrity-getting media attention in papers and so on. Then those papers were left on the shelf, the Big Brother or I'm a Celeb offers didn't happen, and her attempts at being a 'star' fell so flat on their face, she retreated with her tail between her legs.

Having wealth can be such a positive thing for young people growing up. It affords them opportunities that many of us don´t have access to. However boundaries are necessary and over-indulgence is never a wise move. I´d say the young Allen grew up in such an environment and I´d also say he struggled with the knowledge of his Grandfather´s conviction. Rachel appears to be a lovely woman but more ´don´t worry I will look after you and everything will be ok' than ´anymore of this crap and you´re on your own two feet´. They will between them figure it out.

I was trying to imagine what I would do if someone close to me was accused and convicted of having child pornography images. Jesus. It would be absolutely devastating. It would turn the whole relationship inside out. Can you imagine what it must have been like for them? My dad is in his seventies. I just don´t know what I would do. How I would cope. When faced with horrible realities we don´t always act the way we think we might, the way we think is the ´right´ way. That is life. Until it is on our doorstep we just don´t know.

It could vary from money to somebody covering up for somebody else to believing you were some way to blame.

They didn't even wait for a fair trial ? I thought that's what the courts were for, is it innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, or you're guilty until proven innocent of every doubt ?

Biggest problem I can see for the brand is that last time they rolled out the next generation to move on, this time the next generation is up **** creek with no paddle.....

As for CP to me it's stomach churningly wrong at every level and I'd disown any family member caught with it, and never darken their door with my kids again, but that's my moral compass.

Apart from Rachael Allen, there is no brand and never has been since the CP

Yep-because doubt lingered in their mind. They couldn't get past that doubt. And yes, it is unfair.

There are other families who took their children back after they went to jail for rape. That to me was far more inexcusable.

    Have you seen this?
In a statement, Rachel Allen said she was "absolutely devastated" at the detention of her son, Joshua (18).

The chef said the family were issuing a statement purely because of the "frenzy of inquiries" in relation to Joshua from the media.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs (marijuana) with intent to supply them to others," she said.

"He has admitted his guilt immediately and co-operated fully with the Gardaí."

"A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions and when formally charged Joshua will be pleading guilty at the first opportunity."

"We are absolutely devastated at this turn of events."

"Our son is eighteen years old, has never been in trouble with the Gardaí, and has made a huge mistake, which will have profound consequences for him."

"We do not in any way condone his actions, in fact, we utterly condemn them, but it is not for us to condemn him."

"We must now try to look after our son and our family, the best way we can.

"We would ask that the legal process would be allowed to proceed to deal with this matter, without interference, and that we would be allowed to deal with this, like any other parents, in a similar position."

Darina disappeared for a few years but she has done a few things in the last few years such as Christmas special and her books started allearing again. I think she had a thirty years at Ballymaloe lr something. Her brother has also done series.

Good point. I can see his plea of guilty being overturned by the judge. He will be judged not guilty, and the guards ordered to issue him an apology for arresting him and taking the case. The state will pay him compensation for the damage done to his reputation, and an even larger sum to the Allen family for damage to the various strands of their cookery empire. He will profess his guilt strongly, but it will fall on deaf ears.

I know several people who did cookery courses at Ballymaloe and worked in the hospitality industry and it's always because of Darina they go there

At this stage if anyone relies on TV cooks to make anything edible they are doomed!

To me it is just a fad. Bake off the lot of ye!

You have never been to Ballymaloe? I have. They run a thriving hotel and spa and cooking school, they lisence the name for comercial products and they have a range of soups. They are doing very well. After the CP scandal, their corporate customers wives were back attending weekend catering classes.

At the time of the scandal I was working in a shop and the relish was flying off the shelves. Shop couldn't keep it stocked. It was almost like it was free advertising for them.

Actually when they raise cooks to the level of celebrity it is one of the signs of a collapse of society.

The Ballymaloe Cooking School has been there for years since Myrthle Allen and Darina was printing books and TV series in the 1980's. Whoopse-daiseys

and it was all over when the CP happened. No customer with any decency would have touched them with a barge pole after that.

She's had series on television and appeared on shows since then.
Her old books were relaunched and she still writes in the Irish Examiner from time to time.

No it wasnt. You dont have the full story. If it would the place would have folded long ago, but it has grown. I was down there at the wedding 6 years ago. I know the full story and anyone in the catering trade in Cork knows what happened. You havent a clue what happen. You dont know how it was resolved. It was unfortunate but the person at the center of it was punished and business resumed as normal afterwards.

I agree with you about the Irish media but have you read this bit?

She has a cookery page in the Sindo ragazine. They're hardly going to make up blatant lies about one of their own.

A cookery page in the Sindo mag ? hmmm, I'll wait for a real court thanks.

The Law does apply. The young lad was caught and the file is being sent to the DPP. You have to give it time. As for the other matter, the individual who offended was punished.
