    How anyone can attend cooking classes in their school knowing a dirty peadophile lives there and profits from it is beyond me. It would make my flesh crawl to go there.

    Once again, you dont know the full story and that person has been removed from the company. I have been there and Ballymaloe is a great peaceful place with great food and wine.

    Well you didnt know about the cookery school going on successfully for years before Darina, the reprinting of Darinas books. So I would say you know very little about it or catering, but shure carry on.

    I think it's successful for a few reasons.
    It attracts people who are setting up cafe's/little deli's and they can get great experience there in a short while and find out about suppliers.
    It also offers people a good opportunity to see what the industry is like.

    The school's former reputation was irrelevant once the CP came out.
    Ballymaloe was finished nationally and on TV until Rachel came on board, simple as.

    They didnt protect that individual. The individual was removed from the company and property. If they properly exposed the individual, the whole business would be gone.

    No it wasnt finish. I know a few people who have been through the school, which didnt drop its prices. The schools qualifications are still recognised by employers in industry.

    Well Darina herself has downplayed what happened and I think that’s disgusting. She should be ashamed. If their whole business would be gone what she’s prepared to overlook and stand by is mind boggling. No amount of money is worth that.

    On a brighter note. A true story about Rachel.

    One day I went into a filling station to get 20e worth of petrol. I looked at the woman filling at the other side of my pump and it was Rachel. She smiled and said hello and I did the same back. I turned my head back to the dial and it was gone up to 24e and something. Good job I'd 30e on me.

    You dont know the individual in question, you cant spell "paedophile". If you had that size of a successful business what would you do in the same position. Be mindful of the innocent people that they employ in the spa, resort and school and grounds. So the whole family and staff should have to suffer because of that one individual?

    You dont know the identity of the person is you think you are talking about. If you made a spelling mistake as basic as that I doubt you could afford to go to there for a stay.

    The man in Ballymaloe who was convicted in a public court of having downloaded pornographic type pictures of children was named long ago in public, as Darina Allen’s husband, Tim. Darina etc are innocent and very hurt parties to that, have had to live their lives in that shadow and try to run an acclaimed business in spite of it. Now I see here there’s another blight, and my heart goes out to innicent parties.

    I am not defending either her or him but she is in the public eye. There cannot be one law for the wealthy and another for the poor. Obviously the toerag dropped out of school once he found the devils lettuce. Sometimes there are people you just cant save

    You have to take the rough with the smooth in public life. I wouldnt do it for all the tea in China. She had no problem being there for the photo shoot for him in the paper a few months back

She could very easily have insisted on being known as Rachel O'Neil at the start of her career - she could definitely do so now, but she didn't and she won't. She was happy enough to accept the leg up and the lifestyle provided by good ol' paedo Tim and his sleazy wifes fame, fortune and business connections. She's been happy enough to stay like that ever since. One big old happy family.

    If that's not tacit support - then what is it?

    He was a little more than her boss.

    And I can tell you absolutely hand on heart that if my father in law (or father for that matter) was caught with a load of kiddie porn that would be me and them finished forever. No ifs ands or buts and certainly no bending over backwards to help build their business!

    I couldn't bring myself to work for or associate with a scumbag like that. I think a lot of people would be the same. In fact i'd have very little time for anyone different.

    She's not some starving single mother forced into this by biting economic necessity - she's a rich celebrity who just doesn't give a rats arse that grandpa is a paedo once the money's flowing.

    Rachel O'Neil started dating Isaac Allen when she was 18. She married him in 1998 when she was 26 years old, taking his name.

    Tim Allen was not caught by Gardai until 2002 and pled guilty to possession of child pornography in 2003. This tarnished Darina Allen's image and led RTE to look for someone else to host its cooking shows, which gave Rachel the chance to do her first show in 2004. She published her first book in the same year. That's when her career took off.

    You berate her for her "tacit" support for her father-in-law, which you seem to define as having any relationship with him whatsoever. But what did you expect her to do, exactly? At the end of the day, Tim Allen is her husband's father, as well as her children's grandfather. The notion that she would never set eyes on him again is farcical.

    It's all very well to be a hurler on the ditch and pontificate about what she should have done. But as many family members of convicted sex offenders will acknowledge, the reality is often far more difficult and messy.

    Are you so daft you think the only people working there are the family members? I was there when we had to let go people from family business in the recession, even though we knew it is something we had to do to survive we felt terrible. Then there are suppliers who would lose business. You obviously lack any experience of responsibility to other people when you are running the business or maybe you just don't care. But it's a bit more complicated than grand gestures and pompous statements.
