your spot on in most of what you say but what pisses most people of is the celebrities son gets a slap on the wrist and we all predicted this and once again it just confirms the dysfunctional judicary that we have to tolerate

Its a bit more complex than that. Our prison system is very small, it wasnt designed for anything more than career criminals and travellers. We have one of the smallest prison populations in the world, for the size of our population. There has been a massive explosion of the use of drugs and alcohol problems. The Judge has to be shown to exercising the law of the state but he has limit options on where to put him and for how long. So either lads up their game and get their lives together or we make more prison places. I am not an expert, I have no degree in sociology or social science, I dont have the answers. I do know drugs have an intricate place in when a society falls (opens and shameless drug use in public). This is why I am looking not to retire in Ireland when I get older. I see the problem now and I am taking steps.

Little Josh is a spoilt little ****, with money he has been allowed to develop unchecked with dropping out of college and develop his own "cottage trading".

it depends on what line of work he gets involved in, Diego Maradona took cocaine and according to Off the Ball, he was paid 10,000 sterling per day for the duration of the last World Cup to be an ambassaador, people mob him for a selfie and in Argentina and elsewhere he is a God

True but he isnt Diego Maradona. He is a junior cert washout (not even that) with a criminal record. I will give it to him that he is "purdy". So unless he becomes a male model he is going to have a hard time making money legally. Imagine not being able to hold ones **** together long enough to get a junior cert for three years. There are a certain group of people wanting to mob young Joshua, but its not for his autograph.

Young Joshua isnt worth 10k a day, maybe 10k a year. You pick all these well known celebrities. That isnt the real world. My mate in the states is a radiologist in Vegas (I have met him in real life), He has 10 minutes notice to do a drugs test when it takes 7 minutes to get to the nurses station, after that he gets fired unless he has a very good reason. That is real life. I was tested every time I returned to a contract for the same company. That is real life.

I did work with the homeless about 15 years ago. It was an eye opening experience. Yeah Alcohol is a gateway drug. I didnt dismiss any link between danger and legality. Nope they were just hash heads I was in college with.

No, I dismissed the link in responce to your implication that the reason drugs were banned was because they were addcitive.

The reason you gave for banning cannabis could be used as an excuse for banning most other legal drugs, including alcohol. Are you in favour of banning alcohol? If you see it as addictive and a gateway drug and see this as the basis for banning said drugs, then why not?

Why do you think it's a gateway drug then?

What's the legal basis for controlling it then?

Depends on what you mean by "gateway drug". To the best of my knowledge (and I'm open to persuasion on this) there has never been a proven and consistent direct causational link between cannabis use and other drug usage.

It should be controlled in the same way alcohol is controlled. It's no more dangerous or addiictive and no amount of anecdotes is going to change that.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Addiction is heavily linked with pre existing issues...

Victims of abuse are more at risk of developing addiction as a result...

The trope of chemical addiction is becoming unstuck...if fags were purely addictive atva chemical level, necoteen patches would work for everyone but they don't...

If your life is sh!t your more at risk of developing addiction

Johann Hari has a few books on the matter

Bill Clinton didnt inhale so that doesnt count. Cowen..... lets not go there.

My wife had to deal with our messy nephew this morning who was off his head. The little **** smashed the gate of his mothers house, tried to kick in the door. Then he took his daughter and drove off. A guard caught him without NCT, insurance or tax. You could try to see how my view is tinted by dick heads like him.

Bill Ciinton SAID he didn't inhale, he also said he did not have sexual relations with Monica L, when I was younger I took illegal stuff but I never did what your nephew did

So how is taking drugs going to make the situation better. Loads of people have pre-existing and **** lives and they dont take drugs.

You have no excuse for taking drugs you are warned at every turn in education not to do them. The arguement that people taking drugs only harm themselves and are wholly responsible. What about the rest of us who have to put with them. Decent people have to put up with this behaviour, needles, rise in STI's, rise in crime and other antisocial behaviour.

I consumed alcohol and enjoyed it regularly and in small doses. I had great times and it brought me great pleasure at celebrations. I would happily hand back ALL those great experiences if I hand back at the same time the misery it is causing my wifes family at the minute. I wish I could, realistically no that wont happen for a good few years.

Yeah a blind man in the street just looking at junkie scum knows they all started drinking underage and smoking weed. They never start straight at Heroin and Meth, it starts with the spliff and the pill and it gets bigger and bigger.

Explain that to a HR officer at an MNC and see how they view it. Dont quote Steve Jobs because Apple test rehires the whole time. Same in medical professions. Same in Pharma.

Please don't use the 'J' word when you're talking about a heroin addict, it's as offensive as the 'N' word when u talk about someone of African background

Why cant I? Its describes the situation. Where a person from the African was born black and had no choice in the matter, A junkie, took steps and went through numerous social barriers to become a junkie. That was not a circumstance, that was a choice, big difference.

He smoked it in his youth as a social tool, it was part of the culture he was in, starting out Virgin records. Once again not a real world example, if one of his pilots was drinking a few hours before a flight he would sack him as would any air line. You are not really comparing like with like. One rule for the bosses and another rule for the employees. Yes I recognise this is hypocritical but I have seen in the last year my wife had an employee she couldnt sack because there was no written part of the employees contract that she could sack her. The end was not pretty. On another employee he was coming in off his head and was a walking liability. It may be your body and your choice but others shouldnt have to put up with it.

In many cases, its an extreme form of escapism and trying to dull their emotions...in countries were heroin is legal like Switzerland counciling is provided and in many cases the usage is reduced and the habit kicked as the underline issues are being addressed

The goal posts are just being moved from a legal position to health position. Its like wall papering over mildew, its still there and still deadly. If there wasnt a cannabis step there wouldn't be a heroin step its all graduated. I think the fact that young Josh had cocaine proves it is gateway drug. All he needed was a few more years and a bit more muscle and he would be as big as the Dundon McCarthys in Cork.

The Dublin footballer Philly McMahon, who is tee-total, had a brother who died of heroin abuse and he hates that word, he also wants prohibition to end and I agree with him on both points.

Well I want a unicorn and amazon shares to hit €5 each but that s not going to happen. Who is Philly McMahon? Has he ever done anything for me? I dont really care who he is. At least he had the smarts he was potential addict and took steps to fill his life with something positive. Doesnt really change things either way, does it?

Because he never really got into it. or just said he smoked it for image and socialising with fodder he signed and got rich off.

Its always guys who think they are smarter than me tell me about its "benefits". One former friend called me square and wet blanket a few years back. I finally renewed our friendship and then found out he was BiPolar type two (Low low low and barely medium high). Smoking cannabis has no benefits from the results I have seen.

but it wasn't a gateway drug for him and many others. If you haven't takenit how can you say it has no benefits

It will happen but not immediately maybe in about 10 years. When it does I will be long gone. When there is open use of drugs that is when a society falls. We are very very close to it.

If you want a crystal ball start doing maths and learning history and you can predict how current affairs will turn out. There are about 15 points for a society failing. We are almost there. Do you want a bankable bet? By November our world will be turned upside down by the biggest depression since the 1930's. It is patterns. The US will be like the Weimar Republic. Its going to be spectacular.

Because you dont know the full story.
Joshua was caught warned, given time to amend and was too smart and was caught again.
Tim Allen admitted to it. The person who was doing it was punished by being removed from the company. Do your research with someone who was there about that time.

All anecodtal and none of it answers the question I asked: do you advocate banning all addictive dugs, yes or no?

I believe society will be better if and when prohibition ends, a bit of common sense instead of a failed policy supported by puritans and brainwashed prohibitionists. Btw you'll find if difficult, if not impossible, to find another country where there are no drugs. Thanks for your advice on the economy, I will consider it.

All dugs should be banned, only pugs for me. I will admit I have an addiction to patting dogs..... *weeps uncontrollably* it started as a child, first with my terrier, now I am lost cause with a boxer and labradoodle.

They could have and I have stated that I wish I could remove both but its not up to me. You know sugar is 8 times as addictive as Cocaine so my doctor says. Imagine how many diabetics we could wipe out?

Can you tell me how cannabis ruined the lives of Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Bill Murray or Charlie Sheen, as they choose what type of sports car to buy next while their maids serve them the finest foods in their luxury homes.
