Hope Paulie doesn't mind me kick start the new season with a weekly thread.

It's been a long offsesaon, especially between the draft and the start of the preseason. Hopefully the new helmet rules and the flag protests (or the discussion thereof) don't interfere with the enjoyment of the games too much.

As per usual in the NFL, everyone heads into the season with high hopes, and the possibilty that their team can be the Rams or Eagles from last year (or the Patriots of any year!)

I can't say I head into the season with very high hopes for Denver, Joseph doesn't inspire much confidence as a HC, but I would love if I'm proven wrong. Hopefully it will be a bit more interesting than last year as they were very tough to watch/enjoy.

Very interested/excited to see how the crop of new QBs do in the league, and the Browns have definitely benefited from the "Hard Knocks" effect, and I could easily see them have a Jags-type turnaround year. Taylor is a big upgrade at QB and they have invested heavily in the defense.

Onto my predictions , for what they're worth before we see the teams hit the field.

Hey all, I'm new to the site. I never knew there was a community in Ireland for the sport that was this big. Sure, I've been to the Woolshed on NFL Sunday's to watch some of the action, but a lot of the time I'm sat with Americans who although are lovely, but not Irish.

Anyway, I've been a fan of the sport since 2007/2008 (Passive interest in 2007), I have family in the USA who support the Chicago Bears. So when my dad used to watch on Sunday's I'd keep an eye out for them. I took passive interest then & didn't really understand the sport, but over time I fell in love with the game. I'm a Cardinals fan & have been since the start of the 2009 season. I watched them play vs the Steelers in the Super Bowl & Larry Fitz/Anquan Boldin truly stood out to me. I'm looking forward to the new season kicking off this week & surely I'm not the only one who feels the off-season flew by quicker than expected. It's quicker when you follow the draft, combine & Free Agency!

I've been playing Fantasy Football on NFL.com for a few years now too, love it & would like to go into a league with fellow Paddies if there are any that still haven't drafted as of yet! :D I also play the Weekly Pick' ems & Survivor.

I feel the NFC is stronger than the AFC this year, but never right off the Patriots. I've seen some 'experts' claim that New England won't be the same this year what with the loss of some of their receiving core, Blount & Lewis. This is bull***t of course, because how many times have you heard that only for them to go out & actually reach the Super Bowl again? (Poor auld Pittsburgh.)

I can see the Packers going far, they've stemmed away from traditional norms & utilized Free Agency with the acquisition of Jimmy Graham who should be a strong threat & a stellar pick up in fantasy, if you ask me. Their Defense also looks better but time will tell if it can take them to the Super Bowl. The offense can't keep trying to outscore opponents forever, and as they say - Defense wins championships. RE: Denver Broncos post-season. Super Bowl 50.

Here are some bold predictions for the year:
    • Leading Rusher: David Johnson - Cardinals will be run heavy this season. Strong claims for Zeke Elliot also.
    • Receiving TD Leader: Davonte Adams - With Nelson gone he should become WR 1 for Green Bay.
    • Worst Record: Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Many reasons with this one.
    • Surprise package: LA Chargers - With the team they have, I'm unsure if this is really a surprise package to be honest. But they can go deep into the play-offs. Houston look decent also.
    • Super Bowl Match-up: Pittsburgh Steelers vs LA Rams.[/B]
    • Someone other than a QB to win the MVP award.

Here are my predictions for Week 1:

    Thursday Night/Friday Morning 01.20
    Falcons @ Eagles (ss)

    Sunday Early Games 18:00
    Bills @ Ravens
    Jaguars @ Giants
    Buccaneers @ Saints
    Texans @ Patriots
    49ers @ Vikings (ss)
    Titans @ Dolphins
    Colts
    Steelers @ Browns

    Sunday Late Games 21:25
    Chiefs @ Chargers (21:05)
    Seahawks @ Broncos
    Cowboys @ Panthers (ss)
    Redskins @ Cardinals

    Sunday Night/Monday Morning 1.20AM
    Bears @ Packers (ss)

    Monday Night/Tuesday Morning
    Jets @ Lions (00:10) (ss)
    Rams @ Raiders (03:20) (ss)

I've thrown a few Screwballs in there, yes. But in the NFL you'd have to be a wizard to always get an Accumulator up. Plus, you'd be brave to back against the home teams in Week 1.

    Divisional Winners 2018 Prediction:
    • NFC North: Green Bay
    • NFC South: Atlanta Falcons
    • NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles
    • NFC West: LA Rams
    • AFC North: Pittsburgh Steelers
    • AFC South: Houston Texans
    • AFC East: New England Patriots
    • AFC West: LA Chargers

Here's to hoping for a great season!

Very interested/excited to see how the crop of new QBs do in the league, and the Browns have definitely benefited from the "Hard Knocks" effect.

Baker Mayfield has looked the best in Pre-Season, in my opinion. It looked like the league was made for him so it'll be interesting to see if he gets any game time. I think all the teams which have rookie QB's are just itching to try them out & the moment things start to go haywire they'll be chucked in. Darnold has already been named starter for the Jets, an analogy I truly agree with. I've never been a big fan of 'grooming' for the year, although this process has seemed to work well with Jared Goff. Then again, Paxton Lynch never really got into the Denver side did he?

As a Cardinals fan, I'm sure we'll see Josh Rosen at some point in the season. Bradford is a model to go down like always & the 'experts' feel Rosen is the most starter ready from the rookies. I just worry about our O-Line which over the years under Arians have always got injured. The last thing you want is your QBOTF tearing his ACL.

I agree with you where you say the Browns can have a turnaround year, I reckon they can win 6 games at most, but we'll see. I wouldn't like my team to be on Hard Knocks as I feel it's be a distraction, but who knows.

Anyway, best of luck to your Bronco's this season!

My team Arizona are hardly ever on Sky either, but I tend to just watch the RedZone.

I think Darnold will be the best of the bunch - I think Mayfield is too much of a loose cannon and I think that will inhibit his progress - I think Rosen won't have to stomach for it when it gets tough - and for me Allen still has bust written all over him.

As for Paxton Lynch - he was given three years to grow - and every year he was beaten out by a 7th round pick - and then he was cut for a journeyman no.3 QB.

I think the Broncos will beat the Seahawks on Sunday - but who knows how the season will develop from there - goofy is still HC

Leading rusher - Royce Freeman - Terrell Davis is singing this guys praises and that is good enough for me.
Receiving TD Leader - Courtland Sutton - the guy will be a monster in the redzone.
Worst record - the one and only Oakland Raiders - and it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of idiots
Surprise package - Cleveland Browns - I miss when they used to compete for the AFC championship.
Superbowl - Broncos V Rams (after the Broncos hammer the crap out of the Pats in the championship game sending Brady to retirement - and then Wade Phillips will come back and show John Elway how big an eejit he was for letting him go).

No way I see the Chargers doing anything - they are experts at screwing it up every single year.

I'm not normally one for counting the days until football but I have to admit the off season felt much longer this year than in the past.

It'll be really interesting to see how the eagles get on tomorrow, especially with foles starting. I have a sneaking feeling the falcons are going to be really good again this year, not really based on anything concrete I suppose. And while I had always felt foles was underrated it's hard to see him maintaining his form. I know it's only week one, but a win would be a solid statement from Philly that they won't have a slump this year.

Yeah, for me this time of the season is the best, like the start of the world cup, all the 32 teams have some excitement around them, everyone's optimistic. To me it's better than the playoffs.

Can't wait until Sunday. I'll catch the highlights of tonight's game on the bus in the morning. I've Tevin Coleman & Jay Ajayi on 2 seperate Fantasy teams, although Coleman is on the Bench. Ajayi is at flex. Be interesting to see in Ajayi gets more carries this year what with Sproles & Clement both at RB too.

2 RB sets look effective in the modern game. Look at the Saints last season, done brilliant with Kamara & Ingram. Call me crazy, but I see a Falcons win tonight. I really do feel that Ryan & the rest of that offense will click better this season & Calvin Ridley hopefully plays a part.

Bit of an unknown quantity week 1 with the Browns. They could easily have won week 1 last year and the Steelers are light in depth on WR, TE and linebackers...and everything hinges at QB on Ben's knees and ankles staying healthy.

Equally the Browns could be 1-5 after six weeks with tough fixtures.
