Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tons of rubbish left after Electric Picnic

    ...
I admit to leaving stuff behind back in my festival days (I presumed a combine harvester-style cleanup would happen) but I wouldn't do it now knowing the negative impact.

My point is; those who denigrate these folk are either 1) unwitting hypocrites, 2) never been to an outdoor, overnight event, or 3) better folk than I. I suspect most are 1.

Ah so pro dirtbags then. Nice.

I attended many many open air festivals in my youth and the much repaired tent carted to and from each and everyone of those events now resides in its retirement in an attic. Many others I knew did the exact same.

Bar not having the type of funds to replace the camping gear - Never once did I presume that a "combine harvester-style cleanup would happen" (sic)

Must be the same lazy arsed sentiment exhibited by many at the EP...

Burning Man's MOOP concept in leaving no trace of rubbish or oil spills, campfire burns etc. is interesting. They get inspectors afterwards to assess the condition of the area and it's has to pass the Bureau of Land Management in order to be allowed to hold BM the following year.

Suspecting those, who are critical of the huge mess left behind of being hypocrites, is similar to saying those who left the mess are eco warrior "hipsters" or whatever. Such a conclusion can't be made without evidence.

I don't think anyone is expecting the place to be spotless after a festival, just not like a bomb site. This isn't so unreasonable, and it isn't so incredible an expectation that there is cause to suspect that nobody would clean up after themselves. Plenty of people do - it's not difficult. Electric Picnic has only been left like a giant pig sty in recent years when the festival started attracting a different demographic.

And then there's the other people who leave their **** at electric picnic cause they don't care.

Ever see Clones after an Ulster Final? Its disgusting.

Ever see a ballroom after everyone ****s off to bed after a wedding? Pure mank.

After Pope 2: Electric Boogaloo the was rubbish to be cleaned.

Cheap disposable tat, costs **** all, the majority of people were there to get as wankered as possible for as long as possible.

Don't forget though, who raised them?

Ehhhh.. They do.. Who do you think does it ??

Easy on the outrage there.... They have plans in place to clean, recycle and dispose every year and this is all factored into the price of tickets.

It's a festival.... there's going to be a mess. There's even a mess left after Bloom FFS !!

Apologist for mess. So it makes it ok if it's 'factored in' and paid for?
This thinking is part of the problem.

I see that a homeless charity from Portlaoise managed to salvage 660 sleeping bags after the Electric Picnic, with members of the public volunteering to wash them before they're given to the homeless, so at least some good came from the mess.

Maybe we need an equivalent of the WEEE charge built into the cost of tents and junk that have become disposable items, so that the buyer really, really pays for the actual cost of disposing of the item?

Was thinking the same thing, a plastic shyte tax.
