School ebooks - moving between devices

Hi - question about the option for download only once ebooks that come with a lot of books now. Can you download on one computer and then move to another later on? Son wants to start using ebooks and only have a shared laptop, but if it works out we might get him his own laptop in time, and would want to move them at that…

Could they be loaded to a Dropbox or Google docs account, and therefore accessed from wherever?

All depends on where you get them from. For example, kindle is usually tied to the account that redeemed them.
