Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

State Pathologist Marie Cassidy to retire

The State Pathologist since 2004, Marie Cassidy, is due to retire after 21 years in the Office of the State Pathologist.

I met her once at a lecture. She's absolutely brilliant at what she does. It's hard to imagine what she's seen over the years.

I heard that she goes out of her way to comfort victim's relatives. She waits after court/coroner’s inquest to meet grieving relatives and answers any question.

I wish her a long and happy retirement.

    Thanks Marie.

She certainly brought style and sex-appeal to your average bloodbath. It was often difficult to hear an RTE reporter speak of a grisly murder and then this blonde bombshell arrived on scene... I suspect Marie inspired more than one CSI episode with an intelligent dolly-bird showing up the moronic male detectives' lack of intuition and general smarts.

Well done, Marie. Looking forward to seeing you in leather and stilettos on Dancing with Stars...

Cool looking dude! I thought I'd recognise the name – but I don't. I guess I'm not as old as I think I am...

She's Scottish, not Irish, although her grandparents were from Donegal. The closest Scots Gaelic name is Máiri (I think).

She was an advisor on the TV series Taggart.

    Over my dead body!

I think we need to do a post mortem on this position.

Scary job. Lots of criminal trials depend on them.

Dr Jim O'Donovan who was the senior forensic scientist here had a bomb explode in his car.

Was at a lecture given by Dr Harbison, it was riveting.

May Marie have an enjoyable retirement

Best of luck to her! I was going to listen to her give a talk in a local hotel years ago but it was cancelled due to her being called to the scene of a murder. I was so disappointed but duty called for her. The opportunity never arose again :(

Best of luck to her. It takes a special type of person to do that job. I wouldn't even like to imagine some of the things she's seen.
