Listen. The OP asked for recommendations. One of the factors being reliability. I recommended a reliable car.
You can all have your little French scrap love in all you want. No skin off my nose.

I don’t think I’d go to you for an oil recommendation let alone advice on what car to buy.

Volvo S40 1.6 D. One of these would suit your requirements.

Whatever about a Laguna iii those 1.6d s40's are quite the minefield reliability wise. The 2.0d ones would be a slightly safer bet.

If it's no skin off your nose then why do you keep arguing with people who don't share your view?

I owned one of these for 2 years and it's the last car I'd recommend for a 1000 mile weekly commute. Yes they are very comfortable but that engine has a very poor track record on reliability and I have personal experience of that. Volvo parts are far from cheap too.

But surely when you’re “driving†you spend the same time sitting and surrounded by plastics as the rest of us? Or are you oblivious to the feel, touch and tactility of the cabin you sit in? Or the controls? It sounds very much like you are and any old ****e will do so long as it keeps going. Most of us simply want more out of our driving experience these days. If you don’t mind me saying for someone that purports to be a mechanic you appear to understand very little about the experience of driving and that it’s not just solely perceived reliability most of us want. Especially someone doing big mileage

I don't purport to be anything. I AM a mechanic. What has being a mechanic got to do with an individuals opinions of what a comfortable car is? Some people enjoy driving BMW Minis ffs! There's no accounting for taste.
I drive my car. I put my AC on. I listen to my music from my phone via Bluetooth. I set my cruise control when needed. I comfortably cruise at 140 and there's loads left if needed. I spend so little time looking around my cabin admiring the look of the dash or the type of bezel they choose it be maybe 3 secs each journey.
Maybe its because I drive so many different cars in a week I don't even notice these things anymore. To me, a car is a car. Some I like more than others, for my reasons. And my reasons unsurprisingly are not necessarily the same as anyone else's.
French cars do nothing for me bar make me slightly nauseous. I can't stand BMWs, although the 6 series is a beautiful looking car. I don't mind Mercs. I like Audi's. I really like Volvos. And I am a fan of Korean cars, their warranty, reliability and their bits that come standard that cost extra with other cars.
Im not sure why my opinion means so much to anyone else??? Build a bridge.

I didn't start it boss. I gave my opinion and then these 'car guys' who like a 'tactile driving experience' start telling me my opinion is wrong.

Do not buy one of those with the 1.6 engine. The 2 litre one would be fine lovely car to drive.

Should buy a new leaf that has a range of 270 kms???
    Just change it everyday

''Nissan says its new Leaf has an average range of 270 km, with that extending up to 415 km in city driving''

You'd be doing a blend, so 270 kms a day should be no problem.

All that petrol though, 1000 kms a week, ouch. Would pay for the leaf

Yes you are wrong. Anyone recommending a Kia ceed or similar to a person doing 1000km a week is clearly wrong. Perhaps an Optima bit you dosing say that for example.
At that level you need reliability as well
as comfort, cabin and driving dynamics. Is it so hard to fixate beyond alleged reliability in a car?

Nice car but that engine no way. Plus they’re all getting on a bit now.

800kms per week for nearly a year. That's what I did in a ceed.

Is it so hard to accept that once persons idea of comfort may different another's?

People have lower expectations and standards. But if I was specifically recommending someone I’d be telling them to maximize on the comfort and driving pleasure. A Kia Ceed plainly doesn’t do this because if it was me personally I wouldn’t buy one for that level of driving use

And I did buy 1 for that specific reason.

Some people put looks over spec. Some put comfort over reliability. Some put a badge over everything.

I would put a boring car that is unlikely to break down over a car with a nice dash.
