Advice on which hand tools to buy as a gift.

I know nothing about this at all I'm afraid. I wanted to buy a gift for my uncle. I was hoping to buy a few pieces for sort of whittling away with beside the fire. I looked on Amazon and they're very cheap so I'm assuming rubbish? I'd appreciate any ideas. Only have around €50 to spend.
