Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Should make umpires rule on male games only and females rule on female games omky from now on? I think it's a good idea

Are you trying to say that tennis matches with male players should have umpires and female matches can have any female refereeing? Mky.

What about mixed doubles or where players identify off the binary gender scale.

Why stop at tennis? If you're to do this then surely it should be done for all sports. I'd say all the female officials in various sports would love to be told they can't officiate male games.

How about we all just stay away from each other from now on – and die out. It'll only take 100 years – then we'll all be gone. Is that what you want?

Tennis wont need umpires if players are required to be parents, cos parents dont cheat.

Gender neutral umpires and referees all the way.

How about Serena just stops whining like hell and tries sportsmanship ?

Sexism in tennis alright - against men, same money for more work.

Clearly our emotional frameworks are different so if ruled upon by someone with the same emotional framework it would make the outcome fairer

I identify as an Aardvark OP. What about me? Who's going to umpire me? You're so narrow-minded and bigoted! It's all about males and females with people like you – do you realise how bigoted and hateful that is? I am an Aardvark – and you are deliberately excluding me because i am Orycteropodidae. IT IS WRONG!!

Abiding by the rules and accepting the penalty when they are broken would be fairer. That doesn’t need the same gender as referee.

But emotion shouldn't enter the equation, the umpire is impartial and ensures that the rules of the game are adhered to, it's black and white, written a book rules.

Yes but according to the feminists men would never be treated like that.

    Which is bollocks.

Are you saying that when the women get a bit emotional that the rules would then be ignored?

So a male garda should only apprehend male criminals and female grads only apprehend females?

No it’s not. However, searching a suspect is usually carried out by someone of the same gender.

Why do you think it’s a good idea?

Are there problems caused by Male umpires that would be solved by female umpires and vice versa?

She has a history of threatening umpires with violence.
She told one female umpire she was going to stuff a ****ing ball down her throat and another that if she saw them on the street she had better cross the road.

Don't think gender is the issue here.

I have to say fair play to Serena Williams, she is inadvertently highlighting the level of bull**** that is becoming acceptable.

As a middle ground -when a female game- male umpires call the normal stuff but reprimanding or sanctioning can only be done by a second female umpire , in the same way only a male guard can search a male prisoner and a female guard a female prisoner hence they could expand the umpire team to even things out

I can’t for the life of me figure out what problem that would solve.

I can’t for the life of me figure out what problem that would solve.

It would mean that a person with the same emotional framework would be responsible for the grey areas of sanctioning and reprimanding but any gender could call the black and white stuff ie the rules of tennis

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 116 ✭✭per aspera ad astra

Just tennis? Or will we apply this "emotional framework" to everything?

The umpire should definitely not work with the same emotional framework as the player. She was wound up and out of order emotionally - not because of her gender but because she was involved in a very high stakes match. The umpire should be emotionally detached and apply the rules. That’s a very different emotional state than a player. I don’t know what ‘emotional framework’ should have to do with it.
