Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I got placed today aswel and I accepted it but when I looked up how far it is, its 53km away!! I'm so confused as it seems a very long distance to travel.... I don't want to turn it down because it's so close to the comp finishing!

Take it, I travel 59k to work. Apply for mobility straight away when you start. It takes 2 years to get a transfer but you will get one.

Don't think I'd ever do it again!!! It's too disappointing to pass everything and still get kicked at the final hurdle.

and mobility which the 2016 campaign didnt have to factor in.

some counties will be so slow to move if long transfer list. lots of dublin based getting out. 50/50 was told not sure in practice

Why didn’t the 2016 panel have to contend with a transfer list?

Hello. I got a call last week offering me a job. Department of justice. Does anyone know how long I'll be waiting for clearance and reference etc to go through and when I'll get a start date? And also if that dept does flexi time? Tipp region? I want to figure out when to hand in notice. Also nervous of them calling my current employer I have to tell them tomorrow that pas will be in contact. Thanks

If the Dept. Justice requires you to have the "extra vetting" you could be looking at March or April 2019.
Its impossible to say, because no one will commit themselves to predicting how long the process "might" take.

Oh god that's a pain. I have to ask my manager for a reference tomorrow but not hand in my notice. Assuming it's going to be particularly awkward. Thanks

Vetting for DOJ is not as long as for the Guards. I sent mine back to PAS for DOJ around 6 Sept, they contacted my reference around 12 Sept, got my contract 3 October, got my assigned area 10 October with my start date and started on 30th October.

They do flexi time but it probably depends on your office.

I got notified in the first week of August that the first set of Garda Vetting was complete, and that I was now in the Special Vetting phase.
No word as yet, so I rang yesterday.
Not completed yet, they did admit it was very slow but said this was partly due to a large intake this summer, coupled with the "intensive level of investigation" to be undertaken on candidates.
Seemingly this includes a comprehensive credit history examination?

Thank you so much for the info. Surprised to hear how fast it moved. Have to give 6 weeks notice in work so thinking it may be best to hand in asap

What’s the Garda work actually like? What would you be doing on a daily basis?

    Just a passenger

I got clearance yesterday after 14 weeks. It's a long haul... Hopefully yours won't take as long.

Hi. Does anyone know if there’s any truth that the bottom two payscales in CO position are going in March and we will be automatically moved up ???

They are not being removed, you are skipping point 4 and point 8, so if you are currently on point 3 and are due an increment in 2019 after March you will go to point 5.

Typing, filing, dealing with correspondence, you could be helping EOs with finance claims. It depends on which office you go into

Congrats. When I was offered job I asked them to hold off contacting my employer until my vetting was done. This took 4 weeks. They contacted my employer then. I had to do second stage of vetting also but they told me I could start the job while this was being done.

If you don’t mind me asking. How did you get to EO level so quickly? How long do you have to be a CO to apply for promotion?

The biggest difference in work for me was that I am now signing my own work. Most COs in my experience are doing checks on things that need to be signed off on by someone else.

I don't hsve any staff but it is technically a junior management grade.

Difference in pay I think is about 70 a week but I cant remember exactly what I got as a CO

I applied for th open EO while I was still waiting for placement as a CO.

If you meet the educational requirements you can apply to open whenever you want. For internal and interdepartmental you need two years service first

I am still in a garda station.

Personally I hsve no real problem working in a GS. Initially I was disappointed as I feel that I would have preferred somewhere like revenue but I am pretty happy here now.

I will say though that it isn't for everyone. Some COs are dying to get out of AGS. For me I would take it every time VS turning it down and being off the panel

    Hey all,
I got a message from PAS to say I was assigned to the Dept of Justice in Tipp town and that someone would be in contact with regards to a start date. Would anyone know how long it could take?
