Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

"Russia has launched its biggest military exercise since the Cold War, involving about 300,000 service personnel, in eastern Siberia.

China is sending 3,200 troops to take part in "Vostok-2018", with many Chinese armoured vehicles and aircraft. Mongolia is also sending some units.

The last Russian exercise of similar scale was in 1981, during the Cold War, but Vostok-2018 involves more troops."

    . . . . . . . .

"Mr Putin and Mr Xi are said to get along well too - in June, the Chinese leader called his Russian counterpart his "best, most intimate friend"."

    . . . . . . . .

    All taken from BBC.

I dunno about you guys, but I'm concerned what might happen next.

Make sense for China and Russia to build stronger relations with each other. They're similar to certain ways and both are constantly at odds with the West.

Especially with Trump in charge. If you ever wanted to build a strong and combine forces against a superpower, now's the time to do it.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Just some posturing from Russia to distract from their pension crisis.

BBC didn't mention that Russia invited a NATO military (Turkey) to participate too

I can see an alliance of Russia, China, Turkey and Iran, on the cards.

And that would be some quite formidable military firepower.

China and Russia have always been close but not always so they nearly went to war previously,so far China buys a lot oil and gas from Russia on the cheap ,
Military wise russia is falling behind technological advances on most fronts ,for the current exercise it's all bluster ,till China does something stupid in the south China sea and all hell breaks loose ,

We could do with booting NATO out of Europe and forming a European defence force.

So basically change to to the European defense treaty organisation .

Still would need American airpower for another decade till the rest of Europe rebuild their airforces for the future

Are they actually **** each other off in geopolitical terms?

No they're not. The lads on this site seem to be under the impression that geopolitical maneuvers are like a Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles cartoon, where one supervillian joins forces with another to take over the world. It's laughable.

Maybe with the whizzbangs but Russia and China are both ahead of US with EMP technology which can turn whizzbangs into expensive paperweights.

That's how the world really works. Just because you can buy a hamburger and nice tv and stuff do not mean the world is not run by sinister people. Look at Syria you can see different worlds powers are fighting for control over territory in the middle east.

We in the west supply head choppers with weapons and then when a terrorist attack happens we say isn't that awful they are attacking us. But if they so evil why are we supplying them weapons to overthrow governments? Headchopper friend one day and enemy the next day.

Do you think Russia parked a few dozen warships off the US coast the united states would not react? If the fine for Ancient Rome part 2 to sail its warships near other countries coasts and construct bases near other countries borders.

No idea whay they need 300,000 or so wee men when they (supposedly) have some new robocop “controlled bipedal walker”
by the way of a 13ft golden 4.5tonne anthropomorphic walker (nothing in the news suggests it can actully walk as of yet).

Not a big deal in terms of joint manoeuvres.

Also ahead with hyper sonic anti ship missiles which can turn America's much vaunted carrier groups into new reefs.

China has not participated in a war since the 1970s. Part of the reason for their involvement in these war games is to learn combat lessons from Russia, particularly recent conflicts in Syria etc.

The other reasons are strengthening military ties and ensuring there is no distrust which would likely occur if China were excluded from Russia's biggest ever war games which are occurring just over the border.

    https://m.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy-defence/article/2161909/vostok-2018-war-games-chinas-chance-learn-russias

China and Russia are not particularly good friends and a number of diplomatic incidents in their past mean each views the other with a certain degree of mistrust, I think panicking about an alliance is a bit premature!

    Not really no .

hypothetically it's been claimed but we've had Russia make similar claims on various weapons systems over the last 50 years ,a bit like there new Pak 50 stealth fighter that couldn't fly fast and wasn't stealth ,
We know China weapons are clones of other countries technology but no proof any of it actually works in a combat environment ,
Unlike western nations fighting in combat zones over the last near two decades.

You might not feel so confident if you were standing on the deck of a US carrier when you hear that DF-21-D launches have just been detected on the Chinese mainland :D

To be honest though, I don't see why Putin would declare war on his own underling?

Funny how the underling, as you put it, has slapped Russia with more sanctions than ever.

    Odd you might even say

Perhaps you could give us the details of these "more sanctions than ever" so?

US Congress voted overwhelmingly for sanctions in June of last year, and yet none were enacted for close to a year, and those that finally were were quite laughable - something both parties have been able to agree on: http://thehill.com/policy/finance/402921-senators-trump-officials-clash-over-russia-sanctions

And within Trump's first week he was trying to get the already existing sanctions lifted on Russia. We also know that his son, son-in-law and campaign manager met with Russia to discuss exactly that - removing these sanctions. We know this because his dimwitted son admitted as much, claiming it to be about "adoptions" which Russia removed entirely from the US following the Magnitsky sanctions - https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-dictated-sons-misleading-statement-on-meeting-with-russian-lawyer/2017/07/31/04c94f96-73ae-11e7-8f39-eeb7d3a2d304_story.html?utm_term=.3313df35ebe9

This is why Russian state controlled TV is happy to boast that "Trump is ours!" as the US president essentially spent the Helsinki conference performing fellatio to Uncle Vlad.

But hey, I guess so long as he keeps overseeing the kidnapping, drugging and torturing of little children you guys are OK with it.
