Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Odds:

    Poland 1/2
    Draw 3/1
    Ireland 5/1

After a dreadful performance against Wales, and a build-up to this game dogged by controversy, it's time for the boys of green to try and restore some positivity. Can it be done against an impressive Poland side? Team news:
Poland XI: Szczesny, Kędziora, Glik, Kaminski, Reca, Kurzawa, Krychowiak, Linetty, Błaszczykowski, Milik, Piatek.

Ireland XI: Randolph, Christie, Keogh, Egan, Long, Stevens, Hendrick, Williams, O'Dowda, Robinson, O'Brien.

O'Brien makes his debut and Stevens and Williams start for the first time.

Lewandowski is on the bench but expect him to come on for his 100th cap.

How do you see tonight going? I caught Poland's draw with Italy the other night and I thought they looked very good. I'm not optimistic at all. I reckon a Poland win by two goals.

No Matt Doherty. One of our only Premier League players, and doing well in a very good Wolves team. O’Neill is taking the pi55.

Honestly this is the first time every I couldn't give a shìt about the result. My interest in the senior is just meh at the moment.

I'll watch it but I'm expecting nothing with that 541 looking formation.

Big let-off for Ireland as Milik heads wide from close range.

We literally have no shape. What system are we playing? I can't figure out what the tactics are.

My stream is awful but looks like a 3-5-2, Williams deepest midfielder and Hendrick/O'Dowda either side of him.

    Falling asleep watching this

Ireland working hard with a makeshift team. Christie doing his best to undo all the hard work

Christie has pretty much made the majority of the errors so far.

We're not playing as badly as I expected, at least we aren't camped on the edge of our own box for the opening 30 mins.

Jeez ref must have left the cards in the dressing room. Consistent at least, for both sides.

Wow this thread is dead. This has to be the quietest Ireland match thread ever.

0-0 at the break. We've done better than I expected, without threatening much. I'd like to see us offer more in the final third. Christie has given it away often when in a decent position. Would like to see Doherty get a run out.

Game definitely has a friendly vibe to it.

Was thinking that! Not even a page after HT.
Says a lot about the interest in the national team right now.

Just happy we're not getting a kicking and at least trying to keep possession instead of aimless hoofing up the pitch

Do we think a draw and playing well takes the heat off MON?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Decent move there involving O'Dowda.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Watching this on polish channel tvp1 on satellite tv as i dont have sky on the dodgy box anymore. They had a 15 min commerical break at half time!!! The ads were more exciting than the match and i dont speak polish :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    O'BRIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNN

1-0! We deserve the lead too based on chances before that. Lovely cross from O'Dowda.

Maybe in the view of the FAI collar tuggers it does, but O'Neill can't be long for the job. He's done some good with the team over his tenure, but almost every manager loses the dressing room eventually, so time to start fresh.

Jaysus how bad are Poland if we can score against them.

Doherty on as a sub aswell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,841 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

What was Matt Doherty doing at that last corner ? Putting his hand up and waiting for a whistle and flag with the ball at his feet 10 yards from his own goal... right !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

It was a well worked goal and well taken.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Poland are playing in first gear, but at least Ireland are trying to hold onto the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,326 ✭✭✭alta stare

    So who scored?

Back to the good old days of a big Millwall lad up front.

Could be a famous away win in the face of much adversity.

Shaun Williams has done well tonight.

Flooding the defense with 20 minutes to play. I’d be amazed if we come close to winning this. We don’t seem to have any ability to retain possession or indeed win it back with any regularity barring a Polish error.

Commentary is shocking in this game. Falling asleep from it!

Great header by Keogh. One of the bravest players I’ve seen pull-on the green shirt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,841 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

And when we do gain terrority deep enough into Polish !!! half the player with the ball has no support and we loose it, rinsed repeated.

    Bah. Klich equalises for Poland.

    Carved us open.

Can’t say it wasn’t coming, we looked completely statuesque back there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 591 ✭✭✭the butcher

Poland go into third gear for the first time by running at us and they get a goal..

    Subs haven’t made an impact.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,311 ✭✭✭✭weldoninhio

Surprised Lewandowski didn’t get his 100th cap.

Randolph timewasting in a friendly is just pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

1-1 at Full-Time. We deserved at least a draw. Shame we couldn't get the win. The substitutes added very little. I thought Williams and O'Dowda were positives from tonight. Pleased for O'Brien to get his goal.

Big tests are the two home games next month.

    Aidan O'Brien.

I'd say the papers will be scrambling for horsey puns for their match report headlines...
A grand national debut for AOB?
