Is this a harder than normal course? I have ridden it on zwift, and I certainly found it horrible, and I only did one lap

The entire Slovakian team have retired at this point.

    Is Valverde still there?

    i think so
    Thanks.

If he can hold on til the last 1-2 km of the last climb, I wouldn't bet against him.

Yeah was thinking that as well. He's not afraid to work hard on the front either. No messing about with him

Chapeau to Kasper Asgreen (Denmark) and
Vegard Stake Laengen (Norway) for still holding out at the front!

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,761 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Roche actually back on, just about.

would like to see Dumoulin take it actually. as blunt as a hammer in interviews but his honesty is appealing.

    Yes.
Pantomime villain, certainly but that was well bossed.

What a finish by ...Justin Gatlin...sorry meant Valverde...has to go down as one of the greatest of all time , grand tours, monuments-classics, and finally a World Gold to go with all the podiums.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,243 ✭✭✭Boscoirl

Would have been happy with any of those 4 to win. Disappointed for TD to not podium after getting back on.

I actually jumped up and cheered when Moscon got dropped.

Sounded like Valverde was giving birth after he crossed the line

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,425 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Valverde was the strongest rider today. Led out to the sprint as well.

Delighted for Woods to get a medal given the death in his family earlier this year

Valverde is a doper but he's one who took his ban and kept stumm, the type the sport likes.
He's a decent guy and and far from the worst.
He is the champion the sport deserves.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

A deserved victory for Valverde, adding to all he has achieved up until now.

I suppose the question is... How much is Valverde as an athlete diminished by the Puerto association and the subsequent ban? Is he still a great rider even if he allegedly stopped doping after 2006/08. If he did dope and stop, were there long term benefits to allow him to train at a higher level compared to if he was a clean rider.

Of course, some will believe he and others in the sport have and continue to do things to improve their performance outside what is legal or considered morally right.
