anyone have any tips where to get epoxy in dublin - preferably on the northside?
the primary use would be for filling cracks for woodturning.

the usual general purpose DIY stores don't stock it (except for the small two part syringe style applicators), let alone worrying about what they'd charge for it.

Are there any Marine Chandlers suppliers out around Howth, they should stock epoxy

Are they big cracks? I use cyanoacrylate (superglue) for filling small cracks which I find handier. You can get it in different viscosities ... thin, medium, thick depending on the size of the crack. Chestnut is the make I use.

big enough that i reckon CA is not feasible - i've a lot of lovely applewood branches which would be great for candlesticks and the like, except that they've developed shakes which a bit of clear epoxy should fill.

cheers all - any recommended techniques for tapping or vibrating the wood when filling cracks to get the bubbles to rise to the surface/to get the epoxy into as many little nooks and crannies as possible?
i've seen the trick of using a heat gun to pop the bubbles which have made their way to the surface.

I've heard of people making a diy vibration table usuing a hand sander to get the bubbles out when casting with resin. I think there are some videos on youtube about it. I think the main problem is with suspending the sander upside-down as that burns out the motor. Might be worth looking into.

Lacquer sticks from Liberon are great for filling small cracks. Just use a small soldering iron to melt them.
I've never used a pouring resin mixture but I believe that gentle heating get rid of the air bubbles. See Matt Cremona over on utube.
