Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've never understood why people object to it being called a mini marathon.

"But a marathon is 26 miles"

Yeah, the clue is in the word 'mini'.

Thanks. I knew that though as I've ran 3 of them. Seeing as you are struggling with calling a 10km a Marathon I thought I'd round the number off for you to make it easier for you to understand.

I've run ten mini marathons , way more than you

Just a question, why do men do the women's mini marathon dressed up as women? Not asking from a feminist point of view but its something that really bugs me. I do the marathon every year for the last 9 yrs and it really irritates me when I see them. Love to know am I the only one who feels like this and why do men feel the need to do it

The ones I spoke to during the years I've done it were doing it on behalf of their female family members who are too ill to do it themselves. They are usually doing it to raise money for the charity involved with their illness (e.g cancer research). One guy was in a full wedding dress and staggering along in heels and he was doing it for the hospice his wife was in.

I don't know why it would bug you, it's all in good fun and for a good cause usually.

Because you have overweight middle aged women going around saying they've ran a Marathon...

And do you think the person looking at them will believe it:eek:
    It's all fun..let them think they've done a marathon.
It won't take the shine of the fact that you have..

but he didn't get any shine, you are probably the first person who he told probably ran it on his own for no charity

Misogyny please this isn't a feminist issue it's a 10k no matter what what you want to split it

Agreed. The phrase 'mini marathon' for a 10k is just patronising to women.

It is a fun run for charity that is growing by the year.
People being offended or people being outraged at people being offended is just a laughing matter.
I have great respect for anybody that did the run man or woman it is more than I could do any running and I an out of breath.

I do not see trolling in this thread I see people making fun of ideas that are trying to take the fun out of the fun event.:)

    I was expecting this!
Thread is about a women who wants to exclude men.
It might be Louise O Neill.

its equality of outcome , we need to have a female only race in order to dramatically increase the numbers of women who get to complete a marathon

In 2000 46% of the participants of the Dublin City marathon were women. It is down to 32% in 2017.

And this particular 10k event is called a 'mini marathon'. Just a name. Seems a mad thing to get all 'well, actually...' about. It's not like it's harming anyone.
