Has the race started yet? Hopefully it is better than the last one. The extended track certainly looks interesting for it.

Sorry, I probably should've mentioned the race started at 6pm. Tomorrow's finale should follow the same schedule.

TBH, the race seemed like a bit of a damp squib up front until the final couple of laps.

No wait, hang on, have I the right thread here?

It was quiet a good race do with some nice overtaking moves too and yes it was a Mercedes 1-2 but it was only one race and they have plenty of competition in this from Nissan, DS Techcheeta and more so no fear of next season just been all about one team winning all the time and dominating.

I've been trying to think... Had there been any driver who has gone into Formula e that managed to progress into, or back into, F1.

I'm thinking about both Merc drivers, and whether Stoffel Vandorne would get to race again in F1. And then for Nick DeVries, whether his move to Fe, albeit due to winning in F2 and having no drive stay in F1, will ever get to move over to F1?!

    Gasly's Formula E substitute stint pre-dates his F1 debut.

Nick deVries won F2 in one of the weakest fields for years. No chance for him.
Vandoorne has active super license so could sub in. To become relevant he would need to become outstanding in the field what so far he hasn't achieved.

I'm more thinking that Fe doesn't yet have the credibility for the drivers to move straight into F1 without maybe doing the feeder series. Gasly was in GP2 for 3 years before he went to F1.

How many points would a driver get for a super license for winning Formula e?

    Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIA_Super_Licence

It's 30 points for winning the season, the same as F3. I suppose that's a good standard comparison. They need to accumulate 40 points over a max. of 3 years.

So I seen over on the F1 thread that McLaren might be joining Formula e for the 22/23 season. Some good news for it after the two recent pullouts of BMW and Audi was it?

They are, but that contract expires at the end of 2022. With them no longer the battery supplier after that point (Williams take it over), they are free to run a race team in the series.

Once again, to see the races live you either have to pay to get in Virgin Media Sport, do some tinkering with a Sky satellite box to get the BBC red button channel or some VPN trickery to see the races on YouTube.

    This too shall pass.

Sure, they don't even have the qualy or ePrix listed for Ireland...definitely treated like the poor man's cousin! I will be however making use of the BBC satellite channels for this as I do not subscribe to any of the paid channels showing it..

    Friday 26th
    🔸 FP2 — 10:55am

If you have Freesat, it'll automatically be on the EPG around channel 980 e.g. just go backwards on the channels from 101 and you'll happen upon it quite quickly.

Crazy race, pity it finished when it did. Really wanted to see the conclusion of Da Costa and JEV. I don't know what happens now since JEV didn't use his second boost.... also hope all is well with the drivers, very sudden red flag and no replay. Lynn has been taken to hospital.

There have been calls to cancel the Saudi Grand Prix and/or for drivers especially Hamilton to boycott the event for a while now (according to my son).

I suspected that there might be trouble for JEV after not using his second attack mode. He has received a 24s penalty and is now classified in 12th. DaCosta now takes 3rd place, updated race standings here:

Jeez that's harsh what for not using a stupid attack mood. I actually think the races were better without these stupid attack mood and find them a stupid gimic. As for the two races well one had two crashes and the 2and one was very boring. Such a pity that Formula e do not do qualifying as well on another day as I might enjoy it more then and actually care about what driver us where. As it was all I know is someone in a Mercedes won the first race don't really much care after that and Sam Bird won the second race in the zmJaguar while Mercedes seemed to be no where in that race. Strange. Also where was Felipe Massa was he racing at all?

Mereces & Venturi (customer of Mercedes) were barred from qualifying after Mortara (driving for Venturi) had a big crash while doing a practice start in the morning, which was caused by a software issue relating to the brakes. So, they had to start from the back. De Vries ended up 9th after a boat load of penalties across the field.

Massa left Formula E after last season.

indeed, I cannot find where the post-race penalties were applied. Who else got penalties for not having completed a second Attack Mode? In my opinion, if someone hadn't done the second one, they shouldn't be penalised when a race gets red-flagged...that's like an F1 race being cut short and Tyres not being changed to a different compound (I'm wondering has that been thought out properly in the rules of both Formulae).

    https://results.fiaformulae.com/en/noticeboard

All the post-race penalties, that were converted into 24-second penalties:
    • Alex Lynn - Throttle pedal map violation
    • Alexander Sims - Throttle pedal map violation
    • Tom Blomqvist - Overspeed under FCY
    • Nick Cassidy - Overspeed under FCY
    • Jean-Eric Vergne - Failed to activate second Attack
    • René Rast - Overspeed under FCY
    • René Rast - Failed to activate second Attack
    • Tom Blomqvist - Failed to activate second Attack
    • Norman Nato - unknown, the decision isn't listed in the docs

Also Gunther has a five-place grid drop for his collision.

True, but look at it this way. If Lewis Hamilton was leading a Grand Prix on the tyre compound he started the race on with the intention of running the other compound for the last 10 or so laps. Incident happens, race is red flagged and Lewis wins the race without changing the tyres. I doubt there would be a single poster here on Boards who reckon he should be allowed to keep the win.

    This too shall pass.

Eh... I think he should be allowed keep the win. The race ended & he couldn’t take the second compound due to circumstances beyond his control.

Granted, the rules may cover this. Maybe tomorrow when I have more gumption I’ll review the F1 sporting regulations.

That's very different though, everyone else will have taken their tyre stop and will in theory be a pit stop gap behind, so even with a penalty, Lewis should in theory still win.

In F-E taking attack is only a couple of seconds at most, so the penalty for not taking it being a drive through is unnecessarily harsh; and it's made even worse by the fact that despite the red flag, the countback lap was still behind the safety car, so the gaps the cars had to arm attack without losing too much were wiped out as well.

It's just a case where the punishment doesn't fit the crime. This was a bit of force majeure where the penalty should only have been maybe 5 seconds at best.

I very much stand corrected. F1 Sporting Regulation, 24.4(K).
Unless he has used intermediate or wet-weather tyres during the race, each driver must use at least two different specifications of dry-weather tyres during the race, at least one of which must be a mandatory dry-weather race tyre specification as defined in Article 24.2(b). Unless a race is suspended and cannot be re-started, failure to comply with this requirement will result in the disqualification of the relevant driver from the race results.
If the race is suspended and cannot be re-started, thirty seconds will be added to the elapsed time of any driver who was unable to use at least two specifications of dry- weather tyre.
