Interesting conversation about whether it's harsh, but good to know the sporting regs - teams should be well aware so maybe JEVs team dropped the ball. I don't understand why Lewis was being mentioned in the above... It could be any driver in that situation ;)

indeed, I cannot find where the post-race penalties were applied. Who else got penalties for not having completed a second Attack Mode? In my opinion, if someone hadn't done the second one, they shouldn't be penalised when a race gets red-flagged...that's like an F1 race being cut short and Tyres not being changed to a different compound (I'm wondering has that been thought out properly in the rules of both Formulae).

Just reading on Autosport it looks like Blomqvist and Rast were also penalised for the same attack mode offence as Vergne. To be perfectly honest I can understand the dilemma where some drivers lost track position because of trying to activate the attack mode but the reality is that there should be a different penalty if the race is stopped under red flag (rather than ending behind the safety car). In my opinion an absolute maximum penalty of 5 seconds should have been applied. Realistically it looks like drivers lose anywhere between 1-3 seconds activating attack mode depending on how careful they are. There were also plenty of examples from last season where drivers did not activate properly and had to attempt it again on the next lap.

I may be in the minority but I really like attack mode, I like some cars having more power and the strategic element to choosing when to activate. Without the car changes halfway through and the need to change tyres then this adds that extra element. Fan boost on the other hand...... not a fan and find it unfair.

Such a pity that Formula e do not do qualifying as well on another day as I might enjoy it more then and actually care about what driver us where.

I agree here. I know why they do qualifying on the same day but I miss 99.9% of the sessions before the race and am often left confused why a seemingly good driver and car combo are at the back. The key as I have learned is the drivers in the first qualifying group, they have to deal with a very green track and usually end up at the back. So our podium sitters from round 2 will likely suffer greatly in the next race. It is almost like the reverse pole situation but at least the drivers have a bit of influence on where they start rather than 1st = last. Ironically the penalty for JEV will likely greatly help him in qualifying for the next race (along with the new DS powertrain).

I like it too, for the same reasons. It's so much better than how DRS is used.

The fact that Pen Rua found the regulation regarding the nearest equivalent scenario in F1, not changing tyres, shows how Formula E still has much to learn. In the F1 scenario, that rule would have been enforced within seconds of the race being declared won which means if any of the top 3 were affected, the podium would be adjusted.

How many years will it be before Formula E Replaces F1?

At least 10, first performance and range need to improve. My guess it will merge in 20 years or one of them will go out of business before that

It was a good race. It started under the safety car because of rain.it was a few yony specs no need at all for it really. Anyway it was very good when it got going.
It ended under the safety car too.

I found a stream about 10 minutes in so I missed the safety car BS. The fight for the lead was pretty decent, shame about Di Grassi's car conking out and causing the safety car.

I wonder did the Mercedes Formula E team give there second driver a good talking too because he needed it. Imagine taking your teammate out like that. What an arsehloe. He could have went left and he might have hit Vandoornes car but it would have straightened his car up as he was doing anyway and they might have both finished the race. As it was I had no sympathy for the 2and Mercedes driver not been able to finish the race either. I was delighted that Vergne won the race. He deserved it. Do Costa was very unlucky do.

USo Gunther in 5th, Stoffel Vandoorne in 4th, Pascal Wherlein in 3rd, and two rookies on the front row that zi have never heard of. Some lad called Nick Cassidy on pole he is a New Zealander and some French lad Norman Nato is 2nd.

Not since Adam Carroll a few years back.

Hard to think of anyone, maybe Alex Dunne depending on what direction his career goes in but he is only starting his first year in cars. Roe Jr is trying for Indy, other drivers don't have the backing to get to the World stage in the first place.

Mercedes should drop there second driver De Vries. He is no good. Locked up his car today and took his teammate out yesterday. Time they got a new driver for the 2nd seat. I hear Felipe Massa is free.

Because his first foray into Formula E went so well? I'd say they will stick with the race winner over Massa the backmarker!

True but maybe it was not all Massas fault. Maybe with a team like Mercedes he would do much better.

He was literally driving a Mercedes last season... scored 3 points, his team mate scored 41... the works drivers scored way more.

I doubt Mercedes will be dropping their "second driver" any time soon seeing as he had over triple the amount of points of the number one driver heading into round 4!

Well he failed to finish this race and it was no ones fault but his own.

Must have something against him, calling the driver in 3rd in the standings a second driver at a time when his team mate wasn't even in the top 10 in the championship standings is a dead give away.

She was never in the Mercedes-Benz Formula E team. Venturi are sort of what Williams are to Mercedes-Benz in F1.

He is the 2nd driver of the team after this weekend. He will not be 3rd in the standings after this weekend.
Vandoorne got fastest lap of the race as well as winning so 26points and that puts him ahead of his so called teammate.

If it wasn't clear before you have something against him it is now... thats so petty.

I missed that Stoffell got FL. So that means Vandoorne is on 33 points and De Vries on 32... hardly worthy of the sack or being called a "so called team mate" as you continue to say.

They should stick in a has been backmarker in the car instead? yea.. right....

Mercedes beginning to ruin Formula e by winning. Only kidding. There's so much action happening we'll never be able to tell who is going to win but they seem to be up there.

What hasn't changed is how much a d*ck Wherlein is. If things didn't go to plan, he speaks using 'we' blaming the team, and if he thinks something went well, he says 'I'.

Ye your right. I overreacted a little bit but I do think if what happened yesterday had of happened in a Formula one race between two teammates there would be out roure. Yes ok maybe he did not do it on purpose and had only mere seconds to think which way to go but if he could have gone left he should have gone left.

It doesn't matter anyway, de Vries is just keeping the seat warm for Hamilton next year :D

On a serious note though, maybe that is where they will send Bottas...

Audi had such an awful weekend, they could have had the win on Saturday if it wasn't for DiGrassi's power failure. And as for yesterdays crashes... Wasted points. Wehrlein is also such a frustrating driver, he has speed from time to time but yesterday he was slowly going backwards. Sims made a fool out of him on the restart after the full course yellow and he screwed up his attack modes by copying the strategy of the driver in front of him. He should have been battling for the win but managed to finish 4th and inherited 3rd after the Nato DSQ. Nato was impressive though and his lack of experience seemed to hinder him from knowing what to do when he ran out of useable energy, an experienced driver would have coasted over the line (and probably lost 3rd but at least would have gotten something). Cassidy had a nightmare, nothing more to be said about that, hopefully he can learn from it.

tbf to Norman, Susie admitted after the race that they had an error in their software that didn't account for enough energy reduction from the safety car, so he wasn't to know that he had run out.

Wehrlein has such an impressive CV to show but it seems his character costs him dearly

He needs a boot up his ass as his attitude costed him several drives.

Oh please be live on either the BBC or Quest or even both. That is the one Fe race I would like to see live. I seen last weeks live. This one would be great to see live sure it could turn into a procession but I doubt it. In fact I would say the Formule e cars race better there now then F1 cars as they are smaller.
