There's a load of bars, usually heineken ran,
no harder than any other outdoor gig :)

I think you'll find it's not like any other gig and not as easy to get a drink

I rang this morning and was told that my purchase was successful. However, I haven't received a confirmation email, nor has money been taken from my account!?

I misjudged the demand for this talking to a couple lads there who I know would have a passing interest in Metallica just about know nem, sad and sandman. Shocked when they told me they bought tickets today

Yeah I know more going to this than I did guns n roses. Out of the casual fans I know most of them have bought tickets

Thousands of tickets will go for similar reasons, still can't see it selling out though

I wonder will this be the last of the big Metallica Tour's ???

Deff have 1 or 2 more albums in them but giant world tours ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,053 ✭✭✭D.Q

I'd say they have more tours in them than albums at this stage. Their touring is in no way strenuous any more.

Only ever tour for two weeks before a break of 2 weeks. They don't bus anywhere any more. Private jets into the city they're playing, play the gig, police escort to 5 star hotels.

They could continue that for another ten/twenty years easy.

No chance. They're in their mid 50's now. Don't want to see them ending up like Mick Jagger/Keith Richards

Deffo one last album and one last huge world tour i’d say

As to when that may happen and how many tours/albums happen in between is no ones idea

Kind of had to get a ticket to this. It's mind boggling how far this band have come. It literally was "Who?" when we were first in school talking to peers about what we were listening to.

Anyway got my older brother a birthday present ticket. I've a fond memory seeing him crowd surfing when Danzig were playing as support during the Top Hat show in '88. I was doing the same during the Metallica set. It will be my forth time at Slane and I've enjoyed it every time. Always made it back to Dublin at a reasonable hour. Beginning your exit at encore time saves what sounds like ruining a good day out.

My bro won tickets on 2fm for singing Call Me Maybe in Metallica shtyle today. Was fairly class.

Ive 2 GC myself. 7th time seeing them, first time for wife. Had to splash out though I absolutely hate that its not go early to get a pit pass. How times have changed so quickly...

I think it will be similiar.

They don't know anything else, what reason would they have to stop the money.

I can see Lars eventually being outpaced by the older tracks maybe. They'll spend their 70s touring the black album and load/reload exclusively. :pac:

For anyone here who's done Slane camping in the past

How quickly does it sell out? There's a group of us going that can grow from 2 to 7 depending on how many are actually interested in getting tickets when they have the dough

Don't want to book it when numbers are uncertain but if it could be done a month before that would be fantastic

Yeah I've been listening since 88 and when you think about where they are now it's mental.. I've never missed a gig but had become less enthusiastic about them but slane can't be missed its the ultimate Irish Metallica show!
    It's feckin huge!

All complaining to some degree of touring nowadays, all feeling it physically and mentally to some degree. They're not as comparable as some older bands such as the stones, as their music is a lot more physical, so I'm not convinced they ll be touring as late as the stones, but I do think their setlists will slow down as they slow down, which should be interesting.

As long as there’s money to be made, they’ll be touring.

Dont think it can sell out-first field on way in usually kept for campervans/motorhomes next one for tents when that filled up and that was a big field they just opened gate to next field above it loads of space.i know people who arrived fri eve before gnr last yr and paid at gate

Ah 100% they'll be going for a good few more years, they've said as much and as D.Q. said, they've minimised the toll on touring as much as possible.

Edit: oops didn't realise there was another page

Not only that but there's a huge machine behind them, there's a big group of people that have spent their lives working for them that will be out of the job. They'll never quit, they'll never stop.

3 albums in last 20 years, another 2 may be a stretch and going by the quality of those I wouldn't be so keen.
