I flew from Newark to Dublin last night. The flight was delayed by 10 minuted, according to United app it was due to local government air closure. The airport boards stated 'weather'.

But the flight was escorted most of the way across the Atlantic by a fighter jet.
I would guess the delay at the start had something to do with the fighter jet?

Even though we had a delayed start time, the revised expected arrival was 20 minutes earlier than the original arrival time.

There were no remarks made by crew during the flight. Is this unusual?

How do you know it was a fighter jet and not just another commercial aircraft flying close by on the same track back across the Atlantic?

Because the proximity to the plane. It was flying parallel to the right at the same speed. The lights showed it's small size. One constant white light at the back and a flashing red light underneath. And a smaller white light to the front.

You should send that story to the tabloids. They'll do the rest.

What was the flight number and date, have a look on Flightradar to see if it was a different jet.

"No, no, Dougal, these ones are small - those are far away"

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

Fighter jets don't have that kind of range. An F-15 for example has a combat range of about 2,000km. New York to Dublin is about 5,000km.
