    Hi all.I have an interview for a trainee accountant position for a top 10 accountancy practice in dublin later in the later.I have had one unsucessful interview so far so any advice would be greatly appreciated.I have little accountancy experience having only done afew months experience in a small firm but have passed 8 of the Acca exams.Any tips on how to prepare or for the interview itself would be welcome.Thanks.

    They're going to ask about your experience so make sure you've prepared answers for that. Be able to talk about any and everything you've done or even seen being done - general bookkeeping, bank recs, accounts prep etc. Don't lie - if it's something you've seen being done but haven't actually done yourself, make this known but say that you're confident it's a job you would be able to do, from what you've seen.

    Look up the STAR interview technique - situation, task, action and result. Interviewers love this and if you can answer questions in this format you'll do well. They could ask you something like "have you ever had to deal with a difficult client before and if so, what did you do?". You might be able to tie certain questions back to college work "have you ever had to work as part of a team?".

    Also, ensure you have gone through their website and have a good understanding of what the firm do and the specific area you will be working on if you get the job. It's amazing how many people go to interviews and can't even say what the company does (though this is more so for industry). Also, how you heard of the firm.

    Don't be too worried - you're a trainee with a few months experience so they're not going to be hard on you, it will be more to allow you to talk about what you've done so far and see if you're the right fit for the firm. Also, have 5 or 6 questions prepared before you go in - they'll ask you at the end of the interview if you have any questions and you should always answer yes if possible. These questions could be along the lines of "how would you describe the culture in the firm". I would avoid asking questions like how long for lunch etc. and focus on more on the actual work to be done.

    If you've any more questions feel free to ask, otherwise best of luck with the interview. Trainees are in huge demand at the minute, so don't be too put out if you don't get the job. The fact that you have experience working in practice already will put you ahead of many in the pile.
