The Cure - 8th June 2019

Before Malahide the band are doing a few Disintegration 30th anniversary gigs in Australia. They will be playing the album in full during those sets.

Anyone know or speculate if that's the plan here? They've been playing Disintegration heavy sets the last few years anyway, but the full album would be cool.

That said, much as I love Disintegration, I witnessed a 4 track Seventeen Seconds encore a few years ago in Amsterdam. Now that was something.

Not sure I'd want a full Disintegration set, standing in a field. Hopefully it'll be more a couple of deep cuts, some older stuff, and then a good smattering of hits to keep the crowd happy.

And that's probably what we'll get judging by recent setlist and assuming these 30th anniversary shows are specific to Australia. On further reading it seems they are.

Headliners usually go on around 9pm, but it could be early due to the residents nearby. So they could be on at 8pm and finished by 10pm.

Unless it's a festival performance, The Cure play for close to 3 hours, averaging 30-song sets. Highly unlikely they will finish in 2 hours. So either they'll start earlier or play later if allowed.

Well, they might aim to replicate what they did in Hyde Park and do 10:15 Saturday Night at 10:15.

Seems Ticketmaster don't email tickets anymore. You are supposed to get their app and use your phone. The tickets are linked to your account. See this excerpt from confirmation email. You should check you got this.

What ye all think of malahide as a venue ?? I went to see arcade fire there and the sound was atrocious.

I wouldn't bother driving to Malahide, Id say it be mental busy. I'm planning to park up near a dart station and just get the train.

Parking anywhere in the town itself is madness as it will just take you an age getting to the car, and driving away too.

My advice would be to park in Seabury, it's only a ten minute walk after the gig and then drive home via the Estuary Rd towards Swords, very little traffic that way after a gig.

In fact for the last gig I attended there when I walked down to Seabury the chipper (Angelo's I think) was empty. So for that extra 5 mins walk you won't have to queue for a decent bag of chips (compared to what's on offer at the gig at least) should you want one either.

Never been to this venue, do they do a front pit do you know? Not a "golden circle" where you have to pay extra, well, same thing really but without paying.

Wasn't one at LG but I really liked it as you could easily walk down either side of the crowd and work your way in from there and the food vans were at the side too and so there wasn't a huge trek for anyone no matter where they were.

Could be totally different for The Cure though but here's a video which pans around and gives a good idea of what the layout was like at anyway:

Was at gorillaz last year and hopped on a bus after (€10) into town moved pretty quickly. Not sure what time it finished exactly but given it's a residential area won't be too late.

The 4 nights just played in Sydney might skew this. They were a bit experimental over there playing some lesser-known b-sides. After the 1st show they moved the b-sdes set to the start of the set as they seem to have lost the crowd on night one (from a few reviews I read).

I'd say this gig will be back to the normal set though. The Sydney gigs were very specific.

the sydney sets were a Disintegration anniversary set
the B-sides were all distintegration related
Great album but they better not pull that at Malahide
(my mate is a diehard fan and is adamant it will be a regular mixed set)

Yeah. I'd put money it'll be the regular set. The Disintegration gig won't work in Malahide. Some of the crew with me won't know much past the hits. The regular set is full of those, plus the chance of some Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography numbers for me

I think the best reference point for this show is the Bestival live album or thereabouts.
