The ghost of John Muldoon v the tears of Cian Healy Build up thread

As soon as Irish teams started winning Silverware in Europe the local rivalries were going to suffer. I think you would have to travel far and wide to find a Munster fan who'd opt for a win this weekend over winning the Heineken cup.

It's not weaker teams, it's the nature of there being bigger fish to fry.

Speaking of which.. must be almost time for another build up thread!

Where abouts in the main stand?

There was an individual in front of me just the Bohermore side of where you go inside (close to halfway line) who was shouting some outrageous stuff throughout. Felt like giving him a dig in the back at times - very annoying!

We were further down but I heard nothing like that thankfully. Did enjoy the ribbing for Healy when Leinster got a kickable penalty.

    "Give it to Healy!"

100% agree I goto the same spot in the main stand every week but I’m going to have to move somewhere Else. The people around me spent the entire match shouting absolute nonsense and constant abuse at the ref. I’m just sick of it.

Is it F-ing and blinding at the ref or constant criticism? Wherever I go in the Clan stand there's always a cohort near me who call for forward passes constantly by the opposition, it's getting pretty embarrassing when a lot of the time they're flat at best!

And look at the return leg in Thomond, there are an incredible amount of tickets (with a 10% discount) still available on Ticketmaster, for a game that used to be THE main event in Limerick. Is it possible that people just aren't that bothered anymore, knowing Leinster will send the seconds?

moving the game to Christmas destroyed it

    noticeable at Irish games is:

    "Offside!!"
    "Offside!!"
    "Offside!!"
    "Offside!!"
    "Offside!!"
    "Offside!!"

    etc....

You do know what flat at best means right?

This happens everywhere, people are tinted when it comes to their own team and players. I see and hear it in the RDS all the time when everyone shouts about something and then on the replay it turns out the pass was okay or the tackle wasn't late and a few half wits keep complaining despite what they’ve just seen.

Highlight of the game was Lowe stealing ToH's soul.

You could see the exact moment when he realised he was never getting capped for Ireland again.

I don't mind marginal calls being called for by the crowd, even when they're wrong, that's the point of home advantage.

But on Saturday, it was horrendous. One d*** with a stupid haircut at the end of College Road end of Clan Terrace was at it the entire game and actually said " He was holding his leg" about the VdF incident.

Shut up quick enough with all the filthy looks the rest of Connacht fans gave him for that one.

Tbh, I thought the lack of a reaction from the crowd regarding the card was fairly telling. Most of the clan saw it realtime. As soon as the replay was shown there was no complaints, not even the usual ooooohhhs and aahhhhs, just unnatural silence that anyone on any team could have done something so deliberately scummy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

The bias thing is everywhere. We regularly hear “off his feet” on the terrace in the RDS at pretty much every ruck. Almost always from the same person. It’s become a running joke. It’s onky bad if there’s enough of it to force others to move elsewhere. People go to the games to enjoy it. The odd eejit is fine, but if there’s too much it messes up everyone else’s experience. And that’s just not fair.

Yeah it's usually just the big games where the crazies come out.

At the 47-10 game last year some tool moved into the college road terrace in the second half and immediately got on the nerves of everyone near him sound crap at the ref, the players warming up, even Eddie. Thought he was funny and kept expecting people to laugh along with him.

You could actually visibly see space around the man and his unfortunate friend by the end.

I’m calling b.s. on that, that game never happened, I’ve checked my memory and it can’t be found.

Thought Tomane linked up well with Ringrose in defence. He certainly helped in keeping Aki relatively quiet. This was quite comfortably his best game for Leinster.

Well the idiot I'm thinking of on Saturday was a guy calling Lacey racist for not giving Niyi a penalty. He roared it a few times and I only wished I was close enough to let him know it wasn't on.

There are always arseholes who think the crowd have paid to listen to their comedy.

I did love the ribbing Healy was getting, and it looked like he was playing up to it as well.

Two weeks in a row I've heard what must be the same lad in the clan stand have a near nervous breakdown over people not knowing what offside is and on both occasions I've nearly burst into tears laughing. Small things like that make me love going to live sport.

Was he close to players entrance on Saturday? - I heard him too - hard not too - fine pair of lungs on him

Pretty petty and low comment. I hope he proves you wrong........ and I think he will too!
