Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pole mark in new carpet

We had a new carpet fitted and there was a very pronounced line at one end of the carpet which the sales person told us was a pole mark and would disappear after a couple of weeks. The mark is still there after six weeks but the company we bought the carpet from is refusing to replace the carpet and is still telling us the mark will go away.
Has anyone heard of this issue before? Any advice on how to proceed in this situation?

    Cheers

A pole mark is a very common thing in carpets, it is a pressure mark caused by the end of the carpet pressing against the cardboard pole that its wrapped in for delivery. Occasionally they would be worse at the very end of the roll of carpet. So even a replacement will have a pole mark, unless the shop stocks full rolls of that particular carpet ! The vast majority of the time the pile will recover, usually after a few weeks, but it can sometimes take months.

You can help the recovery process by giving the pole mark some extra attention with the hoover, or by giving it a quick blast of a steamer.

I'm surprised that companies will fit carpets with this pole mark without notifying the person buying the carpet. I was told not give it any special attention which makes sense as I don't want to give the shop/manufacturer an excuse not to replace the carpet.

Had I known this could take months to be resolved I certainly would not have paid for the carpet until the mark was gone. I think it's reasonable to expect the carpet will be right from day one.

Poll marks are not exclusive to carpets either, any product that is rolled would have the same mark, rugs, wallpaper etc etc.

We are stockists, we stock hundreds of full rolls, and as such would only have one poll mark per roll, we cut it off prior to delivery so we don't have this issue. Stores that don't carry stock don't have this luxury, tbh most of them are gone in a few days. You could insist on a company rep to call out to make sure that what you have is indeed a pole mark and not a line fault. A line fault will not come out.

I agree, not using the piece of the carpet with the pole mark is the obvious thing to do. I'm dealing with a large company and it reflects badly on them that they wouldn't do this as a matter of course.
