Great idea for a thread WA! Tried adding a picture last night but flash and phone died after the miserable shot below. Bonus points if you can figure this one out from the blur.

Are you on the southside Smacl?
Edmondstown road think the name of it is....

    Yes - well done.

Main Street , Rush - between the Garda Station and the Church. (I'll post a wider image when I get home from work).

We passed No. 6 on yesterday's ride! ;)

    It's in Oldtown.

    here

Just as well I didn't see this on Friday as I know all the ones within 5-10 miles radius :) . Stumped by 8 and 9 though.

I've often wondered does An Post still collect mail from these. Some of them basically would amount to a private mail collection service, as there's so few houses nearby.

Well spotted plodder - about a km north of Oldtown Village on the R122.

You beat me to it, I'd just found that one on Google maps myself thanks to that hint.

    Any more clues WA? ;)

Feck. 5 and 7 are very familiar, but I can't place them now..

There's a bit of a clue on number 9 inside the gate.

Oh well spotted Robert Foster - Harbour Road, Skerries, beside 'Stoops' pub.

Again I'll throw up some wider images tonight (can't do so at work).

Yes indeed, fair play for getting it from that shot.

    No. 5 & 7 remain.
Passed 7 today, and can't believe I didn't remember it last week.
It's Baldwinstown Cross between Garristown and Oldtown here

I'd say half of these are on some of my most regularly used routes and I don't recognise one. There's one a bit outside stamullen after you come down from Snowtown that was the first one I took notice of in a long time recently. Only a few days later did this thread start.

Spot on plodder - Baldwinstown Cross it is (between Garristown and Springhill on the Clonalvy side of the junction for those who don't know it).

This is the only one remaining.

Clue - it is on what was once a very busy route. ;)

So when's the inaugural NCD Imperial Postal Tour happening? ;)

Even if tweaked into a loop starting and ending in Garristown, taking in Ardgillan and the Three Sisters, it only just breaks 75km. Too short of a spin by Wishbone Ash standards :)

I've spotted a few more since so we could easily make it longer! :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,995 ✭✭✭✭Wishbone Ash

BTW - someone asked earlier if they were still in use. Most are, as evidenced by the collection time notices on them. When they are not in use, the slot is sealed.

(Not sure how true it is but many years ago, a work mate informed me that a post box must receive at least 4 letters per week to remain 'active'.)
