Site to Site link approx 500m

Hi,

I'm thinking about settings up a site to site link between two houses to provide broadband to the second. As the crow flies the site to site distance is approx 500m (based on Google Maps at the moment).

One house can receive fibre broadband and possibly fibre to the home. The other house can only get up to 4mb which at the moment is lucky to 1.1 down.

I wonder about the equipment needed and any laws regarding power output from said equipment. Has anyone here setup anything similar in the past and how was the performance?

Is there clear line of site between the 2 building?

Sorry - completely forgot to mention that.

At the moment there is but, I don't think I'll have a clear line of sight for too long as there are lots of trees in the area.

You need clear line of sight for that distance, then you use a pair of Nanostation m5s to build the link.

If they are houses put them as high as possible, on poles 1.5m above the chimney. Just about having line of site will be problematic.

Did you try this?

Thinking about setting up something similar for my parents as they have direct LOS to a neighbours house that has FTTH.

What type of throughput speeds would be possible and what would the signal attenuate much when raining?

I'm faimailar with licensed microwave links but not sure how these would compare, the cost is obviously a lot cheaper with the unlicensed stuff.
