    https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/2020/0909/1164163-karen-byrne-wants-to-do-more-fair-city-but-no-murders/

According to the linked article she wants to be in it again.

    I haven't watched in years.

This stood out to me, from that article.
'I've never acted a day in my life'...

Surely there must be actual actors around who need the work.

Actual actors don't want to be on fair city. It's like someone saying you could have a free Ferrari or a Dacia and they settle for the Dacia. There is nothing wrong with Dacia they are like Skoda were 20 years ago. They get you from A to B but there is nothing exciting or great about them either. My sister has one by the way and is happy with it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

It’s a regular income unlike jobing actors who don’t know when they are going to get their next job. To be fair there are some good actor in Fair city and have been in the past.

Fair City can often have good actors but the script writers/. Storyline researches seem to be brutal.
My mother read an article and it said how the writers coped with writing at home during Covid-19
One lady wrote at home with her cat. After the first episode her opinion was the cat must have wrote it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,318 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

The first two episodes have been really weak, just filler material, though I do have some sympathy for them - the priority at first must have just been to get the episodes on air and battle through the Covid restrictions (which are obvious at the moment.....no extras for example and lots of outdoor scenes).

Hopefully the scripts improve a bit in coming weeks.

Have Tommy Dillon have another affair with Orla during lockdown or something
Bob with money problems to rob the Spar at gunpoint.

Anything than this dancing crap. PM me RTE

If there's ever to be a final nail put in to the coffin containing the body of FAIR CITY ...well the writers have found it and about to hammer it in..as these new episodes have been atrocious. ...its been a yawn fest..ive asked 20 people I know who are fans ..but their patience has been stretched ..other soaps has started of with story lines..and still social distancing .fair City started like a inside of a morgue...ps .15 of those 20 friends are no longer looking at it..like the song in sound of music. ..GOODBYE FAREWELL.

I just think your one Bronagh must have taken a wallop to the head during the lockdown , the way she has been with Will since returning and thinking he might be asking her on a date, like WTF he’s gay? I seriously wouldn’t want her to be looking after me if I was in need of any medical attention.

Anyway I think Will is to young for her. Didn’t she flirt with Deegan at one stage.

    Agree
    I have watched since 1989
But during lockdown didn't miss it at all
Watched Sunday's episode and thought it was awful
Forgot about yesterday's but just caught it on RTE Player.
    Dire beyond belief.
There's only so much of "A PINT" and Maclean Burke's stupid faces that I can take.

It's a bit harsh. It's a though job starting it back up again. I watched the first few episodes of the social distancing eastenders and it was so dramatic and not one word of covid and fake. I like fair city because its a bit more realistic to real life. Just a little bit. I'm kinda warming to the dancing story line. I like how they tapped into the dancing with the starts things. It's lighthearted and God knows we need something to lighten this year. The writers and directors might be apprehensive to start on some big story lines due to covid and maybe some actors needing to be off in isolation and quarantine. Hopefully it will all go well with them.

I do wonder if these first few episodes were thrown together at a moment's notice. It's all just filler stuff.

It's not harsh at all IMO, Eastenders also have to abide by the Covid 19 rules and yet they are able to have a number of storylines going to keep the viewers entertained.

The material in FC was never great to begin with but it was enough to pass half an hour but this drivel is dire, we hear about covid 19 all day in real life so could do with a break from reality if only for 30 mins.

And its not as if FC are doing the covid story correctly anyway, no masks in shops and medical centres which makes no sense at all.

They are well funded by our license fee so its on them to produce a quality show not this half baked crap we are seeing this week.

This programme is right up there with the likes of Mrs. Browns Boys as the worst programme in tv history!

ah hear these ones in the shops and cafe's nobody with masks on - this will give viewers mixed messages .. you will already have ones at home that believe FC is real life go "oh well they are not wearing masks in the shops so we dont have to .." - I understand that its most probably hard to act with a mask on but still

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭Andy From Sligo

cringe fest that dancing ..

Obviously they couldn't ignore a pandemic that has affected everyone, but this is ridiculous. It's more like a 25 minute HSE covid prevention advert than a soap.

  • Registered Users Posts: 309 ✭✭lillycakes2

This Soap is an insult to anyone's intelligence ...... I actually couldnt believe what i was seeing on the episode last night. Absolute cods wallup !!!! Time to call it a day, I dont know who in the name of anything is writing that script............And the acting is pure shocking..............its embarrassing to have that on television....................

its a soap alright ... with all that hand washing going on in every bloody damn scene ! -

  • Registered Users Posts: 340 ✭✭Johnnythefox4

This is dire. We are already bombarded with Covid 19 misery by rte, we don’t need a soap which is supposed to give us a bit of escapism ramming it down our throats. That story from the nurse about the old lady that died was shocking in how badly it was done. Stop shoehorning things that supposedly happened in carrigstown while it was locked down into every episode. And stop with the hand washing in every single bloody scene. People are not complete morons, they don’t need dolly or Renee to remind them of good hygiene.

Bring back Leo and his guitar, and Tommy Dillon riding all round him

This just gets worse and worse. So there they are Dolores Bob, Bob's wife and the young one whatever her name is and not one of them have a face mask on a disgrace. Two of them are wearing them stupid faceshieds which are not and never will be a face mask. The producers of Fair City and the whole show should be shut down. Good riddance. I did not think it could get any worse but it does. Time for Fair City to end it has run its course I think. Drop in some ammonium nitrate and light it up. I do not think anyone would miss it. I only watch it to see how bad it is.

I disagree. They should be doing all that as the Pandemic effects them too. It's not like they live in a different alternate Universe although this would have been a great way for them to get around it all. But no they live in the same one us so should be doing what has to be done just like we have to if we want to go out to a shop and not catch Covid. If they do not do it then people watching will say a look they do not do it why should we bother because people will do that thick or not.

    Live long and Prosper

Covid was their Vietnam. They’ve created a bond. You weren’t there man, you wouldn’t understand!

Ah it’s awful muck. It goes from complete misery - to business being bad for Bob, and all the Covid stuff being rammed down our throats, to absolutely rubbish filler like dancing in the street.

I wouldn’t mind, when they did show Sean dancing, the camera work was awful. He’s an absolutely amazing dancer, but when he was doing his spins and handstands, the camera was zoomed in you couldn’t even see it properly.

Even just looking at it feels miserable - with the lack of extras, the place just looks empty. Eastenders have done this so well. Obviously they are working with the same social distancing restrictions, but they’ve made it feel business as usual for the most part. Albert Square is bustling and they still have the usual extras in the background. And while Covid is mentioned, it pretty much takes a backseat, whereas in Fair City, it’s the main storyline.
