I would disagree about Lidl, the amount of people in my local Lidl who just stand there watching their shopping getting scanned then piling up is beyond the ridiculous even the cashiers get pissed and try give subtle hits to them to start packing

Lidl seem to take a very softly-softly approach to people packing at the till whereas I've seen people asked to move to the shelf in Aldi loads of times. The big affronted faces on them too. That's the fcuking model, folks, like it or lump it!

This is why I love aldi and Lidl as they have no space for people to let grocery's pile up. Not packing quick enough! It will be just shoved off the end into your trolley!

I fear the Germans are losing this war as well.
There used to be signs saying you are expected to throw everything in your trolley and piss off elsewhere before taking the bags out and pack.
    They are gone.
Brand new Lidl close by now even has a "dunnes" style check out, including mmore space for shopping to pile up.

Lidl has changed in that before you only had a small area to load your shopping into bags or back into the trolley. Some of the refit stores have bigger standard size packing areas. Still doesnt stop people not bothering their hole making an effort to get their stuff off in a reasonable time!

Applegreen advertising a "Vegan" sausage roll. Its not a ****ing sausage roll if its got no sausage.

This so fcuking much, it enrages me, I have posted about it before. Absolutely no problem with vegans whatsoever but as you say no sausage, not a sausage roll. I don't get why vegetarian/vegan foods imitate meat dishes, surely people who choose those diets don't want to eat something that looks like meat?

Anyhoo....oranges that are delicious but are so hard to peel your thumb keeps poking into them, and then they have a really thick pith on them. The effort :(

Aldi have a great set-up where they have two sections to put people's shopping into so when Bridie bothers her hole starting to pack, you can go the other side and get on with it.

Problem is Bridie thinks she's playing Jenga with the speed and consideration she's giving to putting every item in.

Just remembered that I bought Ice Cream last night and I forgot to eat it.
My housemates better not find it whilst I'm out today.

**** 'em. A fella I used to work with said he always takes his time. The person on the till and the whole queue would be glaring at him, but he'd pack away all his stuff before paying. 'Taking his time' is probably not the right phrase, but I'm not piling all my stuff on top of everything just so some corporation can make a bit more profit. I'll take a few extra seconds to pack everything correctly.

Its not the corporation you're pissing off, its your fellow shoppers.
Is it that difficult to put your stuff back into the trolley and pack elsewhere?

My local Aldi closed last year. It used have four isles. It was very quick to run around to pick up a few things.(You didn't even need to go down every isle to do a basic shop.
It closed for refurbishment last year. It's now longer and has an extra isle. All it means is you'e to spend longer walking around and things are spread out more.

It's not just about profit, though. Their entire model is based on maximising efficiencies so that they can keep costs down for their customers while still maintaining their margins. If you want to benefit from their model then you play by their rules. I have no idea why people are so arsey about this.

There problem is they've seemed to cave on this.
They also used that excuse for not having baskets and they added them in as well.

I'm looking for work at the moment, but I'm getting annoyed with the vague job descriptions used by agencies. I get why they do it - they don't want you going direct to their client, cutting them out of the commission loop - but it can be really hard to tell what the company is like.

Vague locations are another thing e.g. what is "South Dublin"? Is it Citywest? Sandyford? Tallaght? Ballsbridge? I would like to know before I consider applying. The spotty public transport coverage in Dublin makes some parts easy to get to, and others an absolute pain. There's one place about 5km away from me (as the crow flies) that would take over an hour to get to by bus. Google Maps tells me I could walk it more quickly. (I would try to cycle it, but would still want the public transport option as a backup.)

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

People who quote someone and then put their reply above the quote. Why do this as it actually takes more effort

I get that it’s the shop’s policy and everyone wants to get through quicker but starting to run through three or four items before the other customer has moved on really does annoy me.

I’ve had it happen in Tesco recently too. I don’t stress about it if they “go before the whistle” and take my time.

I’d also be reluctant to give out too much about older people. It might be the only person they chat to all day. I just saw an article headline about older people ordering from catalogues so they can chat to the postman.
People need to get out of their own heads more. This thread has had two pages of people grumbling about shops. The same people would be giving out that the cashier wasn’t grinning wildly and profusely thanking them for their custom, but they’re not allowed to speak to anyone else. I used to hate these angry losers coming into the shop I worked in looking for any reason to vent at people who don’t care. If you’re in that much of a hurry, manage your time better or shop online.

Its a fun thread. I doubt anyone is actually seething about it.

The shops could have express tills for people in a hurry (not for people with < x items), and then slow lanes, too.

Lidl especially seem to accepted this and adapted to the Irish system in my experience!

I don't know about Lidl but in Aldi the staff are timed and rated on their scanning speed. They're expected to scan 1,500 items an hour (pro-rata, obvs) and if you fall under that, it's a bollocking from the manager.

I worked in one for a grand total of a month a few years back when a whopper commute and the rat race finally got to me. Four weeks there sent me running back to the corporate world. Aldi work their staff incredibly hard so I'm happy to play the game to make life that little bit easier on them.

As I said, if you've an issue with the model, shop in SuperValu.

Zero cal energy drinks, ugh. The idea that one can market something with zero energy as an energy drink is mental. Is a double dose of ginseng really going to do that much for you?

Being so tired I am saying silly things. Someone told me that it was nice to meet me as they were leaving today and I said "no bother". Am sniggering now as it must have sounded like I thought I had done them a favour :)

'Fragrance' overload. Bad enough being assaulted with a bang of cheap after shave/perfume but some guy got on the train this evening smelling like he smeared himself in a few cheap bars of soap. My eyes were watering.
