I have a large living room with side offshoot of dining area and part double height space, basically an awkward shape for sound. The room is 11m wide x 7 metres deep with listening position 6m back. Current setup was bought from richer 3 years ago but struggles . I have yamaha 677 av receiver with centre speaker monitor bronze mmp2, left and right mordaunt short m20s. Rears are in ceiling and are quite ineffective imo.
I am looking for options for improvement. Dialogue can be hard to hear without turning sound up overly high. Also the sound never sounds full. I previously had a 20 year old denon receiver in a more suitable room and the sound was better by far.

    Hi jonnie,

thanks for the post and apologies for the delay getting back to you..

Your Yamaha 677 is a super piece of kit and should be up to the job - you mention that you have a Monitor Audio mmp2 Centre speaker? could you tell us what that is ( possibly an MR Centre?) Also do you know what model your in ceiling speakers are? if you prefer you can mail me your real name and address directly to johnmc@richersounds.ie and I'll review the system for you.

One thing that you should look at - do you have a subwoofer? if not it would be a good addition as it will allow you to run the system at lower overall volumes but with increased presence - and of course, finally, without spending any money its really worth going back to 1st principles and setting the system up all over again using the mic-setup as a basis but then 'tweaking' the settings to suit your individual room.

Keep us posted and we will do our best to assist,

    ATVB,
