Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Electric Ireland arrears on prepay gas

Hi, I moved house in June and electric Ireland are hounding me for €220 for the gas ever since. I was on prepay, I would run out every so often but I would just turn off the gas and always topped up. I very rarely used the €5 emergency. I’m just wondering how they figure I owe them anything when I was on prepay for the gas and it had €10 euro on it when I left. I did notice last year that there was a bill on my account online with a large amount so I contacted them. They said then that it was just an estimate of what would be used on average and it’s just generated if I needed it for anything. So I’m wondering if this is what the €220 is now and them thinking it’s owed or what is going on because I’m getting no answers from them.

What do you mean 'a bill on your online account'. You're on prepay.

I had an account online for my electricity which was direct debit and the gas was on it.

So was the electricity on bill-pay and the gas prepay. It sounds like it’s for the electricity. You can’t run up a bill on prepay. That’s the idea of it.

The electricity I had on bill pay but its definitely not for that.

That's what I say to them every time they ring about the gas but still I keep getting the calls looking for the money. That's the reason I stayed on the prepay for the gas. I didn't want any unexpected bills.

You need to get a proper explanation off them. Ask for it in writing. It will make someone look at the account properly. Or ask over on the electric Ireland forum. They’ll look at it for you.

Got a solicitors letter in the door demanding the money. I called electric Ireland and they said they will check into it and get back to me in 5-10 working days. Last thing I need is this crap looking for money I don’t owe and me on prepay.
