That was low... but at the same time, look at that teamsheet. We were playing well below our potential ability there, so there was genuine hope someone else could do something with that team. Keane, Duff, Dunne, Finnan, O'Shea... even Kilbane and McGeady when playing at their best.

Whereas you look at our team now, and ya just can't see things getting much better any time soon... there's more of a sense that "this is our life now".

In fairness, Long is a better player than he gets to show in an Ireland shirt. He's just totally isolated up front alone, with long balls randomly lumped up to his general area to fight 2 or 3 other lads for. He's not a good finisher, but he's a better footballer than we see in green. Maybe if we actually tried to set up to use his attributes we might actually see something.
