this is why Casey is the perfect safety valve. he allows the nation to vent it's trump/brexit/orban frustration without putting him into a position of power

A bit like Sinn Fein so.

You do understand that Casey and president will not change any of that?

It will send a message that people are no longer swallowing the narrative being pushed by the media and politicians of which MDH is the epitome of.

In other great political news today. AAA/PBP/Solidarity/socialists down to 0% in the latest RedC poll

Voting for Casey allows a message to be sent to our moral highground masters that they don't speak for all of us with their sickening virtue signalling.

There is a 3% margin of error, so hopefully the real % they are on is closer to -3.00%.

He is far from an embarrassment. He knows how to speak & behave. He understands protocol & what you should & should not say.
He can host the queen of England & engage in conversation with her.
He has travelled the world as a representative for Ireland & has never done or said anything controversial.
That's the job, he has done it well.
He is head & shoulders above any of the other candidates & they know it.

Voting for Casey because he believes certain things about travellers is ridiculous. Maybe all the candidates think the same but they have enough cop on to know not to say it.

Of course he has done and said things which were controversial. His glowing eulogy for dictator Fidel Castro, responsible for atrocious human rights violations such as the torture and murder of political opponents, journalists and homosexuals. This was an embarrassment to the Irish people he represents and an insult to the hundreds of thousands of people who suffered under the brutal Castro regime. Just because he was an icon of the left is no excuse.

It won’t unless there are discernable trends that politicians may be aware of in the run up to a general election. If people are that bothered by all this and believe that the current parties are not representing them, then they need to gather and organise a new political party like the PD’s or Renua etc and present themselves before the electorate. On the other hand this will all be forgotten about immediately after presidential polling day IMO.....

But almost everyone here supporting Casey says this sentiment is held secretly by 'everyone'.

Well why are Boyd Barrett and Paul Murphy given daily opportunities to voice their nonsense on the radio stations?

I don’t get it, they are so insignificant yet are given more time than other parties.

More left wing media liberal mutten head nonsense that I’m sick of.

I reckon his sentiment's are held by a majority, a small one tho. Maybe 52-55% of the adult population.

Why are they so special, their culture certainly isn't enriching.

This certainly should see him propelled forward in the polls. I like the cut of his jib and working middle class taxpayers should vote for him in their droves.

    Casey for President

The Indo with their usual spin, presenting the headline that he's staying in the race with no actual comments. They just used the article to repeat all the stuff from before brandishing him racist and that he's increased a massive 1% in the poll that was taken before his comments.

If 52-55% of the electorate believed that giving ethnic status was wrong it would have surfaced as an issue long before now.

Alot of mainstream media have gone down the clickbait rabbit hole.

The standard of journalism in ireland is very questionable

I reckon every TD is watching this closely.

The penny has finally dropped and someone finally got across what the majority of this country are feeling right now.

Ahh come on, anyone with a decent education can do everything you listed out.....

We forgot about Castro very quickly didn't we?

I am not voting for Casey by the way....but I am sure not voting for someone who lied his way into the position and continues to lie everyday of the week and people are lapping it up.....

Yes he is an embrassement to the people of Ireland. It shows that Irish people just vote in any corrupt lying politician.....

Maybe I missed it, but was there any poll or discussion or consultation with the people when the ethnicity of the travellers came up? Or was it presented as a kind of "Done Deal"?

There has been no election of any kind since.

52-55% of the people would not wait until an election for their views on ethnic status to find air.

I think somebody is being disingenuous. Casey knows what views he was giving air to when he said what he did and it wasn't about the finer points of identity or status.

Same with Marian Finucane show now . 100% Casey bashing saying nobody supports him . It’s very strange how ALL media outlets, journalists and politicians are taking the moral high ground and speaking for ALL of us on this ???.

There should have been a vote on whether they got ethnic status or not.

Most people couldnt be bothered to read anything about travellers so the ethnic status rubbish passed them by. What hard working taxpayers care about is that the bits and pieces they have worked and saved for arent stolenn by travellers travelling around looking for opportunities to steal because they have all day everyday to do this. They even stop the children going to school so they can push them through small windows thereby training the next generation up.

I ahad an alarm guy out recently. The travellers bring children with them regularly, the child is let out of the van with a ball and told to kick it against a window. If the alarm goes off and no one responds the adult travellers wait until it goes out and then clean the house out.

There have been a lot of break ins near us recently and the local Gardai told residents association it is a travelling gang from Wexford, Gardai cant catch them but they know exactly who they are, they even know the cars they are driving.

There is war in the locality because of plans to stick a halting site here, there are door to door petitions being organised and no local representative who wants to see his or her face on a lamp post will dare to support this plan. We arent going to have our lovely well kept area destroyed without a fight.

Go away FrancieBrady, if there is one thing that annoys law abiding people more than dysfunctional travellers with their horrible culture its the apologists for them.

Can someone actually post something positive about traveller culture.

Fully debated by the people we elect. Then and only then was it implemented.

I can't read the Sunday times link, so maybe you can quote or use another link from somewhere else which outlines what work was done, & where it states the OPW landscaped his garden?
