SF could only dream of 20% in any election down south.

Peter got more votes than Martin McGuinness and Liadh Ni Riada's combined result from 2 elections

    That might shut them up.

You had him at a lot less than that Francie. Your clearly hurting.
    It's a massive massive message.
He wouldn't have made a good president but I'm so glad he sent a very clear message and it's now been delivered. From last on 1 percent to second on 21 percent. I couldn't have asked or expected more. I'm thrilled. I'll have a few pints tonight.

Wrong, I said several times that 20% would mean failure for those who claimed the 'whole country' agreed with him.

Good luck trying to spin it as anything other than a failure.

my god, I'm agreeing with Francie-Baby- shoot me now :P

But yeah, hopefully we're not declining into hate and selfishness. :)

The only way things decline into hate and selfishness is with people like Francie. Intolerant of other opinions and when things aren't going to the narrative uses labels to shut down conversation.

I never thought he would win, coming 2nd though in my.mind sends a mesaage.

He can now be ignored forever. Thankfully.

Maybe Casey never runs again but a message was delivered and local and national politicians should be listening. They will all be up for election soon

Can you repeat for me what Ryan Tubridy and David McCullagh said was the big surprise to take out of the exit poll?

Thats the arrogant obnoxious attitude that has so many voting for casey.

It wasn t a hate filled campaign.
Most people who voted for Casey did so not because of wanting him to be president but because he s not just pandering to this "liberal agenda" and he s the type of person that might speak up in the dail and question the veracity of the so called "homeless crisis " and other media driven issues

Wait, I’m confused now. Are you agreeing with me or do you think I hold this attitude? I voted for Casey btw. :)

Lets just have you pick the president then. Jesus, the arrogance of these posts.
People as explained here countless times understood perfectly well what they were voting for.

Other countries elect a president without the electorate.
I don't care what stupid reasons people had to vote for Casey, it doesn't make sense. Any way you think about it.

2% to 21% some jump! Parties tell manifesto lies every election to get that extra few percent. Some low key Dragon makes one observation and his vote increases 10 fold.
In work today the general consensus from Higgins voters was that even though they agreed and respected Casey for pointing out the obvious but that were sticking with a safe pair of hands.
Terrible result for the others apart from maybe Freeman. Gavin and Gallagher have taking a right hammering. Sinn Feins poor show probably biggest shock of them all. They are usually good for getting their support out, in theory a low turn out should have helped them.

If this exit poll result is borne out in the count tomorrow the candidate that would be most disappointed would seem to be Gallagher considering that he was in second place in all polls before Casey`s comments and now may only finish fifth.

This is a great result for Casey and the center right in Ireland.

This vote was not about what he said about travellers, it was a bout a general fatigue with the left wing nonsense thet has taken over in Ireland.

Its about a welfare state that is incredibly unfair to those who work
Its about a double standard with regard to travellers and the law
Its about the tax we pay being pissed away on wasters like Margeret Cash

Enough is enough!! If Casey founds a political party that continues to call out the lefty bull**** I won't only vote for them.... I WILL RUN FOR THEM!!!

MAKE IRELAND FAIR AGAIN!! Order your hats here!:D:D

Remember Leo Varadkar took the unusual step of asking us not to vote for Peter Casey.
All the other candidates turned on him.
Irish media took the gloves off.
No polls were released after Casey which would have made great headlines.

And lets be honest, Casey was no polished performer.

We have re elected a millionaire socialist who had to rely on the State broadcaster to get elected first time out.

Ordinarily this would be an innocuous result, but in these circumstances Casey on 20% is a massive slap in the face to the Irish Establishment, Political and Media!
Indeed. I'd say there were a lot of people wearing out their knees in churches all over the country hoping that Casey would come last so that they could come on here and gloat. I bet they're really hurting now. Imagine 21 percent !!!!
    What a result.

I missed Gallagher's and Ni Riada's percentage. What were they?

No harm that there is a backlash of sorts against the more left leaning mainstream politicians to bring some more balance to Irish politics.

I wish for the day we have an economically conservative centre right party that represents people that work for a living.

Maybe the reason was they wanted to vote for him. Democracy is in trouble if people have difficulty in comprehending how anyone could disagree with how they have voted.

    Lol.
    21 percent. T-w-e-n-t-y o-n-e percent.
Read it and weep. Message clearly and loudly sent.

    Brilliant result.

Watch the media avoid mentioning casey’s massive swing. It’ll all be about Higgins easy win.

Personally I’m delighted. Had hoped for at least the 20 mark.

The cute politicians will take note though I’ve no doubt.

I agree with this, those that dislike Casey are clinging to the traveller comments, it was his views on welfare in general that struck me. I voted for him to get him to come second & a political party might wake up & listen to the working public.

But they only wanted to vote for him after he had a rant about travellers.
So nothing to do with the type of president he would be, or if he was the right man for the job.
That's actually what they should have been voting for.

7 years time should be fun (it will probably be less)

The media are going on the mad run for Miriam O'Callaghan, that's their choice. The parties will run their Senators that can't get elected. Catherine Noone, Aidan O Riordan etc. Gerry Adams may even get a run out.

Whilst they all cannibalise each other, there will be one diamond in the rough. Peter Casey, making Ireland Great Again :D

I think most people did that.

    It's a massive result.

I'm sceptical of the IT figure to be honest... the media have spent the last fortnight belittling Casey for his views and the threat he represents to the cosy setup between the 2 main parties and said media hangers-on, to the point of where polls in the last week+ have been suspiciously absent.

Now, just after closing time at the polls we have reports that MDH has comfortably won when it seems that Casey gathered overwhelming support in that time.

Maybe that sounds like a conspiracy theory, but to be very honest given the aforementioned relationships between those at the top in this country and those who report on the state of affairs, how would we know anyway at this point?

I wish for the day we have an economically conservative centre right party that represents people that work for a living.

    So old style FG?

I'm struggling to remember when we had an actual left(ish) of centre government.
The Rainbow Coalition came close perhaps? Waaay back in the 1990s.

Generally Ireland has had right of centre governments so it's amazing how the left can be blamed for our financial woes.
