MD had a car sent to Belfast from Dublin to await him arriving in Belfast in a private jet that also departed from Dublin.

Thats an hour and a half drive. Less if you're the president and get police escorts.

    Jesus.

Casey may well be M.D's curve ball.

Dunno of I'll vote for him myself, but he sure says it like it is.

    Straits? As in Dire?

It would be one heck of a swing for Peter "talking shyte" Casey to get within a roar if being in contention. You really think 30% or so of the electorate are going to hear he was kinda racist about Travellers, and think "Ooo, yes, I'm a little bit racist about Travellers, too! Just the sort of classy guy I'd like as head of state!"

It was the security services that told him to fly.

i wont be voting for him, but in fairness he is the president, he is not some girl going on a hen party for the night in Belfast.

we waste billions in this country every year on far worse.

He sure says it like it isn't. That it's how some people want to pretend it is, is worrying enough in itself.

That's that. Nothing of any huge significance really.

Glad Casey stuck to his guns re Traveller's. Will throw my vote his way.

So the game here is to play "let's not discuss the nonsense Casey talked, let's swap anecdotes"...

... then when you don't like someone's anecdote, just flat-out call them a liar?

He said he drove to Derry. He said he was told to fly to Belfast. Can't see the problem.

Let's actually get out and vote for Casey now. He's not going to win but a good showing will at least make it clear that the Irish people want to be properly represented on this issue, instead of the pathetic PC bollocks we've been subjected to for so long. Maybe more politicians will actually try to make some change when they realise there's actually votes to be picked up. Hail Peter.
i was a non voter but will be 100% voting for peter "nonpc" casey
everybody should also back this guy with the bookies
    2 birds with one vote

This ganging up on Michael D over issues that are frankly minuscule in the scheme of things is completely taking away from what the debate should be about.
He's defending himself as well as he can in the circumstances but it's akin to a lynching.

Let's be clear: the government sets the expenses for the Office of the President and the 8 presidents before him didn't get this treatment.

Casey is being populist and I don't think Michael D is the type to lie openly on national TV about his travel arrangements.
In any event - he's a head of bloody state. Trump's plane alone, in comparison costs $270k an hour.

like all good commies he's filling his pockets:)

Its a spoof. Why was he not told to drive to Derry so?

Ive nothing against him btw, imo he tied himself up by mentioning Derry, should have stayed quiet.

Sure private jet to Belfast is ok now? That where we are? He and Labour would have went balistic at that years ago, but now he has the job its ok. Ironic.

I'd still consider picking a #2, unless the polling station is right on your morning walk.

His salary is less than that. And he's also gifted his pension back.

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/heat-on-tds-as-president-higgins-rejects-pay-rise-427187.html
It has been reported that the State has received more than €1m back from President Higgins’ gifting of salary and pension provisions since he entered the Áras.

So, yeah, he's doing a good job of filling his pocket by gifting all that back to the state.

That was my thought to. If it was somebody else a few years ago Michael D would have had a bee in his bonnet.
