No, now it's a chance to really waste tour vote.

The legal powers of the presidency are small, but not none. Would you really want this clown deciding on a contested dissolution of the Dáil? Or whether a bill should be tested as to its constitutionality? Really really?

Quite apart from the "soft" power of the office. AKA, making a holy show of yourself and the entire country for the next seven years.

He doesn't have chance, I wouldn't worry about it, this race is long over

You sound very rattled, relax. MDH will still win. It's just good that these discussions are taking place and it seems people are quite welcoming of it.

A vote cast is not a wasted vote. Whereas an uncast vote is. Thanks though for the condescension, rarely do I see here on Boards. ;-)

Did you know that state funded taxis are sent out to ferry traveller children into school?

Where they proceed to distrupt classes taking a huge amount of the teachers time, with the other students suffering.

SNAs assigned to the traveller children at huge costs.

Mothers of traveller children coming in and physically assualting principles.

I have several teachers in my family, primary and secondary schools. The stories you hear are ridiculous.

Nope, only in the confirmation biases of people expecting other people to do mindless donkey work at their beck and call. You go reread this entire sewer, you'll find I'm bang on.
Are you familiar with the concept of an outside bet?

That's not how some of the spoofers have characterised their alleged flutters. And "outside bet" would at the very least imply a chance of winning, and if they think they're getting good value for it, more than a 1 in 300 chance, at that.

As I say, either your colleagues are lying, or they think he's in some sort of contention. Make your own mind up which.

A vote cast for a bad outcome is clearly a bigger waste than a mere lack of any vote at all. But you're welcome!

Yeah I've heard that said on numerous occasions about other things that were a forgone conclusion.
Higgins more than likely will be returned but not at the level previously suggested. He was rattled on a few occasions last night.

Peter Casey, a voice for a tiny, minuscule number of people in Ireland.

Define "minuscule". Casey's 2% support in the last poll is about 45,000 voters or, to put it another way, the same level of support as the Green Party.

It's highly unlikely he'll win, but I would be surprised if this traveller issue doesn't at least double his support to 4%, or the same level as the Labour Party.

You made the claim that "half of the Casey Superfans on here" said he's going to win. I'm disputing that. How can I show something that's not there? You made the claim. Why can't you back it up? Is it because you're talking bollox?
    It is.

Irish politics tends to veer more towards safer votes than potential disrupt ones, I will agree though, Higgins will lose a few this time, people's anger is rising towards our political class, and rightfully so

Well he's getting my vote, I don't think he'll win but I'm giving it to him as a thank you for having the balls to tell the truth.
I'm sick of the pandering these fúckers get. I've yet to meet an actual person in real life who has as much as a good word to say about travellers.

Ah, so you'll now in effect conceding that plenty of people have been wildly talking up his chances of winning, and you're going to quibble whether it's quite half? Pardon me while I yawn.

    Are they though?
Peter Casey expressed an unpopular opinion shared by a lot of people and the president of the country was immediately out to condemn it and call it "appalling". Not to refute it or challenge it.
Other reactions from canditates ranged from "reckless and inflammatory" to "abhorrent".
They are value judgments, not challenges.

If being challenged on an opinion was the only consequence of expressing it in this climate we'd have a much healthier society, but it's not. Shame and exclusion are the response to a view that goes against the zeitgeist grain these days. You are no longer just wrong, you are now morally or intellectually deficient if you don't see what the crowd sees. It's not an open society in which to express yourself freely. I think he was right when he said debate here is being smothered because of it. Stifling the exchange of ideas and opinions is a dangerous road, it also stifles the evolution of thought and consequently policy. We are robbing ourselves of our full potential by not trusting that our values are sound enough to be tested, that we can either refute or learn from opinons that differ from the norm.

Not only is what you say true, but it goes beyond just shaming that person for expressing their view, when there are calls for Casey to step out of the race. Had similar views been expressed by a politician, councilor, radio host, journalist etc., that would mean your job.

Why were you not going to vote? Are people forgetting there is also a referendum on that day?

People can vote for whatever they like, it's a private vote, nobody is looking over your shoulder. It'll be interesting to see if the votes on the day for Peter Casey tally with his support online.

No, it's objectively true. Why would voting for a bad outcome in some way be better? Not sure you quite thought that one through.

No but if I had such toilet paper I'd give it to you to wipe up that bullsh*t you're spouting. Half the Casey fans think he's a cert to win. Absolute bollox and lies which you won't and can't back up. No credibility.

When all I said and done he has opened up a discussion everyone was afraid to have and I’d say quite a few politicians and the media are taking note of the support he has gotten.

Hopefully it’s the start of more balanced views across the board.

Comprehension is not your strong suit. Anyway, I best go back into work. The over-represented Travellers won't mind themselves...

Very flustered over the Lear jet to Belfast but car to Derry, uncomfortable when it mentioned he's a landlord. Hey he's a great socialist, just aswell he wasn't asked the rent he charges, one newspaper article claimed 2500 a month. Failed to mention he picks up his NUIG pension of 19 k every year. It's nice to see he's not getting the coronation he thought he was going to get. As said he will probably still win bar a huge upset before Friday. But despite your claim to the contrary he was rattled especially when Duffy told him he had an effective pay of 500k+ a year . Wage plus unvouched expenses of 317k.

Bear in mind they're doubling up the referendum vote with the pres one, partly to save money, but also because otherwise the turnout for that would be even worse. Down as low as 33.5% for the Children's one, which was waaaay more contested and high-profile than this vote.

Half the Casey superfans on this thread keep saying he will. Though I'll grant you that's statistically very close to "nobody". And they're likely just blustering, at that.

Can you give us examples where "half" (50%) of the fans in this thread have said he will win the election.
Nobody will win this election except Micheal D.
Peter Casey has opened up a can of worms here and it's now time to listen to the concerns of the settled community without the "racist" nonsense being bandied about.
