My sister gets this. She's a single mother with 2 kids, eldest is 16 and youngest is 13, but the 13 year old has autism and type 1 diabetes. Sister has a mortgage on her own house and works about 10-15 hours a week, depending on what's on. I wouldn't do what she does for the money she gets, and I still wouldn't do it even if on €250k a year. No amount of money could make me ok with what she has to deal with.

I was listening to Joe Duffy earlier and he had a pensioner on who was getting carer’s allowance to care for her son, but had it stopped recently when she was hospitalised for 6 weeks. Their reasons for stopping it (not just temporary, but permanently) was because being ill in hospital meant she wasn’t where she was supposed to be, at home caring for her son; even though the money always went to her son’s care and the household in general.
It was an absolute shame to have a woman of her age crying down the phone on national radio after having her assistance culled through no fault of her own, and is now left with only a non-contributory state pension. She said she had €30 left today to last her a week after she had bills paid and groceries got.
She is representative of the most vulnerable in society. Not Margaret Cash with a 100k wad ready and waiting once she’s bled the state dry. It’s the likes of her we need to be championing, old age pensioner with a disabled son, no access to social media to get her plight across, and not agile enough to pound the streets with a megaphone shouting for more money. All she wants is her allowance to be reinstated so she can care for her son’s needs. Her case puts Margaret to shame.

Jeesus Christ, that it just a horrible story.
There are so many older people out there in a similar situation who need help but who are not getting it. Sometimes they are just too proud to ask for help; other times they say that there are people out there who need it more than them.
Similarly, the same can be said for carers and the lack of assistance that they get.

Yet, we have all the money in the world for the squeaky-wheel types like Margaret Cash and other fanciful liberal causes.
Something seriously wrong with this country. Margaret Cash has plenty of advocates in RTE and other areas of liberal Irish society; where are the advocates for the older people in Ireland who have contributed to society all their lives?

They do though for reasons unknown. Like Margaret posts 2-3 times a day "motivational posts" about praying to god or being thankful to god for everything he has given her - even on the days she gets bad news or things don't go her way. Probably comparable to how poor people are more likely to depend on religion.

In fairness most modern Christians don't practice half of what they preach either. No sex before marriage, No homosexuality, No abortions, Divorce is only allowed if one partner is unfaithful etc.

I go to mass weekly. All this does is denigrate my religion. I'm extremely surprised to see the priest playing along with this crap.

I must find out the next time I'm chatting with the priest what the story is with a bunch of morons videoing what appears to be a religious ritual only to be posting it on the Internet for sh@ts and gigs.

When I was younger I even remember the priest saying recording equipment wasn't allowed in the church for any type of ceremony. I wonder how they'd feel about crap like this being recorded just to be put on the Internet.

I've always found the Catholic thing very wierd.

I go to mass every week and have done most of my life. I can't ever mind seeing a Traveller there. I have however, been threatened with the big brother treatment from little ratbags wearing holy medals. I also see travellers wearing rosary beads and scapulars while lurching up and down the street while trying to look menacing. I also remember when I was boxing they'd usually have some kind of relic tied around their boots. I wonder if the guy who robbed my grandmother's house was wearing any of his lucky charms.

Another thing I can't wrap my head around is your typical foaming at the mouth Liberal that has no problem getting took into me for my religion is usually the first up to defend these people. I wonder what the thought process there is.

Over the last couple of weeks I've been reading over this thread when I've had time.

Right now I'm sitting in work coming towards the end of a twelve hour day. I did the same yesterday and I'll do it again tomorrow.
I get in from work tonight to put my two kids to bed (2&4) and I won't see them again until this time tomorrow night.
After they are asleep I'll try and spend some time with my wife but to be honest I'll be too tired to have any sort of meaningful conversation.
I worked hard and grafted to get a trade and I continue to work hard and try and upskill and better myself.

It boils my blood to see where taxes are going. I can't fathom someone who thinks it's acceptable to scrounge, it's not a culture, it's not ok, it's not right.
People like Margaret Cash are a drain on society. My wife and I had to think long and hard about whether we could afford kids never mind shooting them out for fun.

Something needs to change, however I don't believe it will.

Also they are not a separate Race they are Caucasian.
