Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gas fired central heating boiler continuous pilot light

I have an old, Potterton Kingfisher Gas fired central heating boiler which is operating very successfully. It's very simple as far as control units are concerned. However, it has a Continuous Pilot Light requirement which, I've calculated, costs about €200/annum just for the pilot light. (Of course, there will be times when the main burner and the pilot light are operating together so perhaps a more realistic figure would be €150 per annum for the pilot light). Having the pilot light being on permanently is also a waste of gas adding to global warming. It may not be significant for a single user but I am sure that there are many such boilers in use around the country.

I've been looking to see if it is possible to change the continuous pilot light system to an intermittent pilot light system and came across the Honeywell S8610U controller. See here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Replacement-Honeywell-Furnace-Integrated-Ignition/dp/B00E4254FG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539876162&sr=8-1&keywords=honeywell+s8610u and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7sFXRDWkoA . Has anyone come across a system such as this?

You cannot convert the appliance, also, you cannot interference with the appliance yourself as this would be illegal gas works.

A kingfisher is an old appliance, must be 20-25+ at a guess, so it's time for a new modern appliance, with electronic ignition.
