There have been emotional scenes at Dublin Airport after a young Carlow woman arrived back in Ireland following successful "last chance" cancer treatment in the United States.

Shauntelle Tynan, 20, has been receiving treatment at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

She was diagnosed with Histiocytosis X Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) - a rare form of cancer - in 2015.

This afternoon friends and family members, as well as a "flash mob" of dancers from the Leah Moran Stage School, welcomed Ms Tynan home.

"It was an amazing welcome home. I never thought I would see this day. I just can’t wait to go home and get my life back on track," she said.

Ms Tynan's story received widespread media attention after she posted a tearful video on YouTube last year in which she said that the specialist treatment in Texas was her "last chance".

The video was shared thousands of times on social media and more than €700,000 was quickly raised on the crowdfunding website gofundme.com.

Before the dramatic cash boost, the family had spent more than a year trying to raise the money.

Shauntelle's care in Texas was not supported by the Government as she did not qualify for the Health Service Executive’s Treatment Abroad Scheme, having sought treatment outside of Europe.

After moving to Houston with her family to receive the treatment, Ms Tynan announced earlier this year that she was cancer-free.

Most people's troubles don't really matter much yanno!
