    Its in L24 and L30.

You set the end time, leave start time blank. When you get home you plug it in as normal and the car will know what speed charger it is connected to, what level the battery is at and can then calculate how long it needs to charge and it will auto initiate the charge session in advance of your allocated end time to ensure the car is 100% for that time.

So the start time will vary each night but you always have 100% by the end time you entered.

It works a charm for me since day 1.

I didn't know that, very handy.

Of course, it does mean that if it stops at 8, and you then want to preheat the car, the preheat will use the battery, not the charger, I think?

I don't understand what is so good about it? Sure all the car needs to know is to start charging when the night rate starts and it will at some point finish charging as the SOC is 100% (not relevant when)

Separately, of course, you would want to program what time you drive off at, so the cabin is heated to your set temp for that time. Preheating is also done of course from the charger, not from the battery. I believe all Leafs do that too

No, as long as its still plugged in it will topup the battery as the pre-heating is going on so you will still have 100% when you leave... or at worst 98/99%

I explained in previous post what the advantages are.

Not really. You explained how it works. That it will have reached 100% SOC just when you want it, say at 7:30AM. What's the benefit over having the car starting to charge as soon as the night rate sets and and then having 100% SOC whenever it finished, be it at 2AM, 4AM or indeed 7:30AM

Edit - I see now where you state the benefits in that the car is not sitting at 100% SOC for a few hours before you need it. People thought that mattered 10 years ago. Now they know it doesn't ;)

And slightly warmer battery, slightly more efficient car => meh

    Time is Li-ions biggest enemy
Then sitting at low or high SOC is the next biggest issue.

You don’t think that’s true? If you don’t I won’t try to convince you. Plenty info out there about what affects Li-ion.

I agree the warmer battery don’t matter much. It’s really the 100% charge bit.

That reminds me of the discussion we used to have about if one should overclock their CPU or not :)

Yes of course overclocking the bejaysus out of your CPU shortens its life. From say 12 years to say 8 years. The economic lifespan of a CPU is about 4 years. See what I'm getting at? ;)

Technically you are correct, but in practice it is immaterial. And thus even thinking about it is a waste of time. Never mind acting upon it.

As I originally said even if it makes no difference, using the feature that Nissan built into the car is hardly a bad thing.

It reduces the 2nd most detrimental thing to the battery, with no effort. Why not use it.

Better to have a full charge asap after charging starts.

All this stuff about extending the life of the battery is outdated man. And you know it :p

Ioniq comes with a lifetime battery warranty in the USA. That says it all. Pretty much every EV for sale today even in this country has an 8 year battery warranty. If it fails it gets replaced for free. Just use it and don't worry about it.

We’re talking about Leaf 24. Talk to someone with a 7yr old leaf that’s down 3 or 4 bars already (usable <15kWh) and come back to me! ;)

It makes no difference to future EV’s because they have much larger batteries so a few % up or down would hardly be noticed.

When your starting out with 15kWh it’s different. You’ve been spoilt with your EV;)

For anyone thinking of taking the plunge, and I know most posters will advise careful research, the local infrastructure is so important. Around Kilkenny Carlow you nearly can’t get stuck (and I do have a home charger).

I’m near clonakilty at the minute with no home charger and my options are:
Clonakilty Only 1 Charger and it’s offline ( looks fine when you go to use it but has a data read error and by all accounts is unreliable)
Skibbereen: 1 Charger with one port available
Dunmanway 1 Charger, 1 port available
Bandon 1 Charger, 2 ports available + 1 fast Charger which yesterday had a card read error requiring a call to start and to finish. (Yesterday, the guy on the phone for one of these calls insisted on getting my name , car details etc. in a howling gale lashing rain 😀)

I love the ev but you wouldn’t want to be too spontaneous!!
