Full-Time. Great win for Newport. I'm sure Pep is thrilled to be going there.

Doherty with a brace to prevent some local embarrassment.

They were right? Why are you sticking an L in there! Or are you saying they were calling him A-Monday/ Amondee?

    It is just Amond,

Cos everyone knows how to pronounce the foodstuff. Hartson and the commentator were pronouncing 'mond' like the French word 'monde' for some reason...

Largely second string West Brom side vs Brighton reserves live on BBC this evening.

Least we get to see Hoolahan in action.

    Shockingly poor attendance.

Tell that to the Newport players and fans. Get to host Man City next on the carpet of a pitch.

Glenn Murray off the bench to win the game. 3-1 as I type with a minute or two to go. WBA down to 10 men due to injury in extra time.

A very bold prediction...... a lot of research gone into that!!

United have as good a chance of at least drawing at Stamford Bridge and taking it to a replay on both teams recent form anyway.

No more replays in this year’s competition. Fifth round was to be completed on the day from next year but they moved it forward to this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,411 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Fifth round kicks off tonight. Chelsea v United the obvious tie of the round but the rest is pretty unappealing. Feels like they’re dragging the arse out of it by playing eight games over four days with only one 3pm Saturday kickoff.

7 Premier League teams still standing. Guaranteed to have one in the quarters and potentially six. All matches to be decided on day with extra time and penalties if required - no replays.

QPR v Watford kicking things off at 7.45 this evening. Live on BT2 but think I’ll watch Dundalk v Sligo or just start the Game of Thrones rewatch binge before Season 8 starts.

    Friday QPR 0 - 1 Watford

Might just see if I can find a stream for the Brighton v Derby match, home side are in a very poor run of form (shocking in fact 6 points from 10 games) and Derby while typically in and out might fancy their chances here.

1-0 to Brighton through Knockaert. 37 minutes played.

2-0 just before HT, Derby are pretty bad.

Is it pushing it to say that this could be seen by some as a "shock" result, given Brighton's poor current form and Derby pushing for a play off spot?

Yes very much so. Despite a loss in form, they are now an established PL team playing at home.
There is still a relatively big leap between the divisions

    Ashley Cole scored for Derby.

All Wimbledon so far this half but Milwall with the best chance...

    Millwall to the quarters again!

    What's Rodney Parade looking like?

I didn't think I'd say it, but I don't know how Newport aren't winning here.

Is the co-commentator saying Emerson? Cos he should be sacked right now if he is

John Hartson is barely coherent in his own language never mind English.

Sane makes it 1-0. I fear the floodgates will open now.

Keeper should do better there imo. He's got a busted nose for his trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

Are my ears playing up or did Hartson just call Sane "Mane"?

    blueser wrote: »

You're correct. He's having a mare on commentary. Has called Ederson 'Emerson' and said Pep won't want this game to go to a replay.

And I thought Danny Murphy was bad...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Good solo goal from Foden to make it 2-0. That's the game.

Again think the keeper can do better.

No upsets at the halfway point. Hoping that all changes today.

Bristol City v Wolves on BT2 at 1pm
Doncaster v Crystal Palace on BBC1 at 4pm
Swansea v Brentford on BBC1 Wales at 4pm

Have backed the home teams in the first two games in singles and a <22/1 double.

Bristol on a nine win run should give me a run for money. Doncaster a bit more dodgy but good home form albeit in League 1. I don’t see the Premier League sides having an easy time of it today so hopefully one comes in for a profit. Two will pay for the flights I’ve been hoping will drop in price :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,050 ✭✭✭✭The Talking Bread

If you were going to back anything it would be Wolves at a frankly great price of evens or 10/11 and Palace at 8/13 to supplement that in a double.

Can't see anything but both teams winning. And the prices aren't bad for two premier league teams, one very impressive attacking team that is safe and secure now in the league with little chance of progressing higher and and really would be making the FA Cup a good priority to have a chance at European football while Bristol City's priority is obviously Playoffs and they have made plenty of changes today to back that up,

The other game contains teams two divisions apart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,411 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Couldn’t be backing Palace away at that price. At 7/2 and 4/1 respectively I think there’s value. Anyway, money is down and first game has kicked off and don’t want to turn this in to the gambling forum so time will tell.

I'm on Palace outright from before the 3rd round but I couldn't make a case for including Doncaster in my 5th round acca even though a couple of the tips sites were backing them DC...

Doherty on fire again. Will be really interesting where Mick fits him into the team now. He has to play on the right side though, has to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,252 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

He needs to be the first name on McCarthy's team sheet.

The most inform Irish player over the last two seasons and now playing a level above every other Irish player in the national set up.

Bristol City very game, but in the end not quite enough.

Do we go further than that and play wing-backs so we can accommodate Doherty in his 'best position'?

Tie of the round tonight and with an interesting backdrop for both teams and managers.

Not sure how this will play out. United have a terrible record against Chelsea - only 2 wins from last 14 and neither of those were at Stamford Bridge although they can feel unlucky having conceded late in the league earlier this season.

Have felt that this run of three games (home to PSG, away to Chelsea and home to Liverpool) would be the most important in assessing Solskjaer. Easily perceivable they could lose all three and his good start may be questioned.

Chelsea and Sarri in the middle of an equally important five game run in 15 days. The hammering at City and an away game at Malmo preceded this and with job not done in EL (although they should easily go through) and a trophy to play for on Sunday, Sarri could be wondering where theses games lie in his list of priorities.

No lower ranked teams have progressed from this round yet and hoping Chelsea don’t buck that trend tonight.

Kind of ironic that having scrapped 5th round replays a season early, not one game has finished level after 90 minutes so far. This one could be it.

Live on BBC1 at 7.30 with quarterfinal draw afterwards.

Don't see that as any more likely than any of the other ties, bar the obviously one-sided ones. Fair chance of an easy win for United IMO...

We've won the last 4 FA cup ties against Utd, 3 of them by 1-0 and the 4th on penalties.

Given how open we've been in recent weeks i cant see a 1-0 to either side tonight getting the job done, I wouldn't bank on either keeping a clean sheet.
