How are dependents calculated when separated?

If each applying separately for mortgage and have kids. Each are paying for the kids, roughly 50/50 Do the banks essentially calculate the kids twice or do they halve the costs?

Counted for both for different reasons.

For my mortgage they were listed as my dependants with the preset allocated figure per dependant.

For my ex they were listed as his dependants but the associated figure was the court mandated maintenance payment which has been in place for the last 6 years.
