    Hi all,
Looking for a pediatrician in Limerick to keep an eye on our little one's health, We have become increasingly aware that the doctors that take care of myself and my wife may not be the best for a baby.

    Thanks!

I may be wrong here but AFAIK, in Ireland Peaditrics is a Consultant role and seeing a Paedeatrician is via referral from a GP? Referrals can of course be either private or public and one can of course request a referral if they feel its warranted.

I would hope that any GP would refer a patient if the patient was outside the scope of their experience.
I've got a 14y.o now, and apart from UTI infections as a toddler for which he was referred to appropriate specialist all other care and appointment were via our GP.
Apart from vaccinations via the PHN and schools.

If there is an underlying condition that needs monitoring by a Paeds specialist, raise it with your GP and ask for the referral.
If your concern is that your GP is not best for a baby, can I ask why you feel that way?
Given the way Primary care and post pregnancy care is given in Ireland, your GP is usually the 1st port of call.

Yes, you will need a referral from your GP, or community care doctor to a paediatrician. Unless your child has a specific medical issue then a paediatrician isn't necessary, and won't take yoir child on. They are not like a GP. If your child has a suspected chest infection for example you wouldn't just make an appointment with a paediatrician for a check and prescription. Clinics, even private appointments, are only held on certain days. So you would be very limited on the days and times you can be seen. Also if there is not an ongoing issue that the consultant wants to follow up on, your child will be discharged from their clinic back to the care of your GP.

If it's for a specific medical investigation ask your GP for a referral. If it's for general day to day care, maybe look for a different GP.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

Perhaps a recommendation for a thorough doctor who has a good reputation for children's medicine?

Why don't you ask your GP first if he or she has a pediatric qualification to treat children.

If not then ask your GP to recommend another GP who specializes in children with a pediatric qualification.

Dr Roy Phillips is a paediatrician. Have used him for both my kids.

Michael Mahony and Con Sreenan - both in Barringtons and very nice/comprehensive I believe.
