Hi Guys
I'm looking to get a tv for an OAP with too many boxes and remote controls!
I need to get one tv with 1 remote that suits their needs and simplifies things.

Is there a tv out there that can take both saorview aerial cable and satellite cable and most importantly a working EPG for both?

I know the sony models take both signals (i've both 2 from yourselves within last year, both great) but the EPG on the FTA Satellite cable doesnt work.

40 inches plus , no bigger than 55 inches.
Approx 500 to 700 euros. (if only option is more let me know)

thanks
Hallaz

Hi Hallaz,

If you're looking for a TV with  both Freeview and Freesat tuners I would recommend the LG 50UK6750 at 629 euro. It is a 50" TV and has an EPG for both however you would need to change between them in the menu system as they will not display together. It also has a very user friendly smart system and a great panel:

Let me know what you think.

Kind regards

David

Thanks for coming back David

To confirm freeview = saorview here ?
So Saorview ie rte etc will work and freesat or UK satellite Free to air will work ok ?
Also to confirm its now 599 euros on site?

And I released it may not fit where it is going so may have to get smaller so is the LG 43UK6750PLD at 499 euros ok to handle above also?

thanks again.

Hi Hallaz,

That's right, if a TV has Freeview HD it will work on Saorview in ROI, the Freesat tuner will also only pick up the free to air channels that are authorised in your region. It also seems to have dropped 30 Euros after I originally got back to you so it's now 599 euro.

The 43" version is 499 euro and also includes shipping and a 6 year guarantee.

Let me know what you think.

Kind regards

David

Hello David
Checked the space, all good for the LG 50UK6750 so I'd like to proceed on this if I can arrange with you?

thanks

Hello

Received tv in quick order as usual thanks very much.
Elderly person who has tv is delighted with the screen, sound and remote control which has buttons easy enough to use (though I do plan to get the LG voice activation remote for them!)

For anyone else in the same position as me (getting tv for elderly person) or just to make like easier I pulled information from various sources and tricking around with settings.
(I’ll remove if not appropriate place to post)

Below will make sense once you’ve played around with things

When tv set up as location Ireland ->
The saorview was fine but the uk free to air satellite channels were not in a decent order.
EPG works fine for both.
I decided the effort to arrange all the FTA satellite channels to a decent order was too much.

So

I set tv up as location Northern Ireland ->
Saorview now became Freeview but channels were not in order however it was easy to rearrange these channels as only a few
The EPG was fine
The FTA satellite channels were now in a decent order ie similar to SKY (bbc at start, gambling etc at the end)
The EPG took longer to load and also needed an extra click or two on the menu to choose the program.

As mentioned by David from Richer Sounds the two sets of channels are separate.
Easiest way I could find for the elder person to navigate between one and the other was below

If your LG tv is running Webos 3.5 (e.g. a recent model 2017 onwards ) you can set Quick Access favourites onto buttons 1 to 9 on the remote. Set RTE1 onto button 1 and BBC 1 in button 2.

Now a long-press on 1 brings you to RTE1 (and the saorview/freeview epg) and a long press on 2 brings you to BBC1 and the Freesat epg. If you have the magic remote with voice command you can also say "change channel to BBC1 " etc and you will switch between epgs. Google "webOS-3-5-quick-access" for instructions
