Nice header but that was just a ball straight down the middle. Should be a defenders ball.

It started off a bit slow, but enjoyable game now.

What do River fans think of Maradona? Is he hated for his Boca connection or does what he's done for the country surpass all that?

He is hated. But what he has done for the national team is recognized.

    Pratto again. 2-2.

Edit: Actually an O.G. Still, game on.

It's a pity they can't finish off that Boca stadium. I assume there's not enough space with the houses behind to build a stand to give the stadium a bowl look?

Ah no. It's perfect the way it is. There is enough bowl looking grounds around the world.

    When is the second leg.

Both River and Boca stadiums are very aged now and both clubs are considering building new ones.

Argentina has only one somewhat decen modern stadium nowadays, which is the one in La Plata.

Full-Time and the first leg ends 2-2. It was quite an even contest. Both sides can point to chances that they passed up.

Second leg is on the 24th. All to play for.

Really enjoyed that game, very fast paced and was end to end for a lot of it although both halves started off a bit slower. Plenty of goals and some good chances that were missed too. It was so different to watching a PL or CL game, both teams were really direct and it felt like less of a tactical battle and just two teams who were sent out to win a football match. Cracking atmosphere too and the Spanish commentator on my stream was gas :pac: will definitely tune in for the second leg!

Very entertaining game. Also all players were very careful not to get booked/sent off to avoid missing the return leg. I think the next game will be different in that regard and it will get a bit more physical.

The result is completely open. River had better control and could have scored another goal in the first half but Boca had that incredible chance at the end of the game too.

I knew Armani was good (not sure how much responsibility he had in Boca's 2nd goal), but I was ver impressed with Rossi.

River should have Ponzio and probably Scocco back. Will see if Pavon gets fit for the return leg, but he looked very mortified when he left the pitch.

They don't. They showed some matches from the Brazilian cup but that's it

There stadium was actually suspended because more people attended than the approved capacity. They are hoping to have the suspension lifted today as if Boca wins, celebrations would take place in their stadium.

    Game in doubt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,402 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Looks like the game could be postponed.

Reports say the Boca bus was hit on the way to the stadium and windows were broken, then when the police used pepper spray to disperse the crowds around the bus it got in and affected the players. Few players reported to have been throwing up after getting into the stadium and some gone to the hospital.

    Crazy.

Expecting Man City supporters to blame Liverpools for this! :p

Game supposedly going ahead at the original kickoff time (9pm Irish time) which is crazy. Thought at the very least they'd delay it an hour or two.

Confirmed 9 PM, looking at some of the players in the dressing room they really look shook up.

Kick off has been delayed by an hour, but that is still not confirmation that the match will actually go ahead tonight.

If they play and River win, there will be an outcry and a petition to replay it.

I mean, I hope everyone is ok an all but this is exactly the kind of stuff I want from this fixture. Now bring on red cards, fights and lots of goals.

    Is it happening?

It seems unclear, from what I can gather FIFA and Conmebol are insisting it has to go ahead, but River may take Boca's side if they refuse to play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,473 ✭✭✭Adamcp898

CONMEBOL appointed doctors stiff arming them into going ahead it seems by signing a declaration that there's no medical reason it shouldn't be played, ignoring the first-hand evidence of players and management stating they don't quite agree.

Don't suppose this would have anything to do with the plethora of world leaders in town, some attending the match, and saving face, would it? ;)
